They dupe you and then refuse to listen

Do not ever take a HDFC card!


I made a payment of Rs 22, 000 on my card for the first time which went through smoothly. The next day when I wanted to use my card, the payment didn’t happen! I called the Customer Care (CC) to know the problem and I was told that I have reach the limit on my card. I was told that the limit is Rs 22, 000.


In a few days time, I receive the card statement charging me with a service tax and a Over Limit charge of Rs 500. I called the CC again to ask why overlimit charge and the CC conveniently tells me that my card limit is Rs 20, 000 and not 22, 000!!!!! SO I question him as to why I was told that it was 22, 000, and why did they let a payment of 22, 000 go through when the card limit was 20, 000???? The CC of course had no answer. But when I asked him to waive off the overlimit charge, he quickly put out a request, telling me that the bank will call back to confirm the reversal and then I can pay my card dues.


I waited for around 10 days and then what I get is another month’s statement which had the following: reversal of overlimit charges... late fee of Rs 700 + overlimit fee of 500 (yes, again) + finance charges 720 ( I don’t even know what that means!). Apart from of course the service charge for last and this month!!!!!!!


I call them again, and another CC very conveniently tells me it’s my fault that I didn’t pay my bill. But what about the fact that your CC said the bank would call back!!!! "But the bank never calls back, " said the CC.. This is how customer friendly they were. ANyhow, then I again asked her to waive off these Rs 2000 which I am unwilling to pay for no fault of mine. She put out a request warning me that It won’t happen. And also asked me to call the bank the next day myself to confirm as the bank is not taking that responsibility. I called back the next day and yet another CC!!! I was tired, but still told him the whole story.


All he could tell me was that the request for reversal has been rejected. I kept angsting and then he suggested that I make my payment of Rs 22, 000 and then call back after 2 days to put in a fresh request for reversal of extra charges. And well, I again complied by these inefficient CCs and made my payment. After 3 days I call back, and yet again a new CC! This one was absolutely clueless about everything and said I better pay the whole amount. When I asked to talk to the team leader, he just disconnected the call!!!


Meanwhile, today I also got an email from Amit Asija, Officer HDFC Bank - Debt Management, telling me that I have not paid a single rupee on my card yet and I better make the payment of Rs 24, 157 if I want to avoid legal actions. This is the first time I am facing so much trouble for a credit card payment..


I feel helpless! Please help me get rid of this bugger of a card.......
