HERO HONDA-AMBITION—MOVE UP IN LIFE THE POWERFU”E”L WAY is the catch line of HH 133cc power bike AMBITION.
HH launched this bike about 2 years back as a solution to what every consumer wants from a bike. A combination of Power with a very decent mileage and u bet HH has succeeded in that. Only thing which HH compromised and the only factor which led to the downfall of such a beauty is the LOOKS (and Instrumentation to a certain extent). I have really really liked this bike since it hit the market. Let me tell u that looks is the only reason why I didn’t buy this bike becoz if u r paying about 50, 000 bucks for a bike (No discs or self start) then u should get a good looking bike!!!! Otherwise if one has to consider the power and the mileage factor (as we all do) then there is no match for AMBITION not even some 150cc bikes!!
The bike comes in 3 version 1)The basic model with no Disc Brakes or self start
2) Model with Discs and No self start
3) Fully Loaded version with self start and discs.
Preferably I would go for the Disc brake version without self start anyway it depends on personal choice. U got money go and buy what model u want!!
LOOKS : PLEASE CHANGE THE FRONT PORTION HH!!! Looks of this bike are pretty good if u don’t consider the front portion. The round headlamp and what HH calls the “REGAL CREST” should really be changed and some snazzy looking headlamp like CBZ should be used in my opinion. If HH does this change then definitely AMBITION would be more successful bike. The tail lamp looks good and is quite visible from distance. The side panels with AMBITION written look good too. The Left side panel covers the air cleaner while the Right side panel covers the battery. There is a lockable loop at right rear of the seat for holding helmet or some other things. No aluminum die cast grab is present at the back which is a surprise. The angled silencer or exhaust also adds to its looks. AMBITION comes in 8 colours. I have seen Black, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Dark Green colour bikes and personally I like Black colour of this bike. Nothing to mention more about the looks.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION: A WINNER The Ambition has a meaty 133cc 4- Stroke, Single Cylinder, Air Cooled, OHC engine which generates a power of 11BHp at 8000 rpm (considering 12BHp which is generated by P-150 which is 150cc). HH has really made a wonderful engine which delivers power as well as mileage. I will discuss about the mileage later. The bike is too silent and u don’t hear the engine sound. The sound of the silencer is pretty good although is silent. Well I am a person who loves the exhaust sound and CBZ and Pulsar are my favorites in this category.
The Transmission is 5 speed. Yup this bike too comes with 5 gears. See TVS, this bike is 133 cc and it has 5 gears. Even WIND which is 125cc also has 5 gears. Well the gear shifting pattern used here is 1 down 4-Up (racer bike style) similar to that in WIND. The gears are well spaced and are smooth. U won’t have any probs while gear shifting. You can gradually ride at 20 kmph without any jerks or chain sounds. I have ridden this bike on 20kmph in fourth gear and gradually increasing the acceleration then.
PERFORMANCE: MIND BLOWING. The bike performs absolutely great on road. Be sure to take a test drive and u’ll come to know. This baby sprints from 0-60 in 6 sec flat (comparable to FIERO F2 and P-150). The top speed of this bike is 100 kmph which is also great. As I went above 60 still the bike remained as smooth as it was on say 40-45. Well my frnd was sitting beside me at the back and it was his bike so he told me not to go higher (else if its not ur bike and sum1 else’s then u can run a plethora of burn-in tests on the bike to check its performance!!!! wont u??) so I stopped going above 65. But the bike is pleasure to ride even at 65 also. U don’t feel u r riding at 65. If u happen to go at this speed be sure u r having helmet on else it can be trouble!!!
MILEAGE: THE MAJOR FACTOR! HH says AMBITION gives 79 km/lit. (UNDER STANDARD TEST CONDITIONS). Of course u wont be on UTSC every time u take ur bike on road so I don’t think this bike will give u 79 kmpl except USTC. But still it can give u a mileage between 50-60 kmpl. So its definitely worth buying since u get a near power of 150cc bike and a fuel efficiency near to a 100cc bike. The fuel tank capacity is 12.5 litres wherein 2 liters go to reserve.
LIGHTS: NOT AGAIN!! Well the head lamp is round in shape and is 35/35 watt. Yea its definitely powerful but it is not at all sporty. If u look at headlamp of ambition then u don’t feel like u have spent on it.
SUSPENSION: Suspension is good; no jerks or stiffness found during riding. I wont be able to tell u about the pillion becoz I haven’t experienced pillion riding as yet on this bike. Front suspension is Telescopic Hydraulic Front Fork and the Rear is Swing Arm with 5 step adjustable Hydraulic Shock absorber.
INSTRUMENTATION: Another compromise!! There are two dials on the Instrument console. The left one is the speedometer with odometer (No Tripmeter). There is no Tachometer (How HH missed that??). HH must have provided a tachometer (rpm meter). Well its missing here and so instead of it the right dial consist of fuel gauge with indicators for high beam and neutral. The side indicators are placed above the two dials. On the steering handle to right is the headlight on-off switch and self start button whereas at the left is horn, the side-lamp indicator switch and hi-lo beam switch. There is no pass light as well!!! The switches are easy to operate but HH has missed out certain but necessary indicators!!
All in all a good bike missing some features. But if HH comes with a new revamped version of Ambition at a slightly lower price then definitely this bike will succeed.
