Almost all models, except Street and Sleek, were a success. Splendor continues to be the largest selling motorcycle in the country. Positioned as a product with superior styling, design and aesthetics, Splendor has turned out to be a popular model.

Even five years after its launch, Splendor continues to contribute over 50 per cent of the company’s turnover. After an initial run of success, the CBZ model appears to have hit a road block in terms of attracting consumer attention. And, it is too early to pass a judgment on the Passion.

While much of the growth in the company’s performance and the premium position in the industry can be attributed to aggressive marketing and superior product features, the company has also had the advantage of being an early-entrant into the four-stroke market. Right from the start, Hero Honda has confined itself to the four-stroke market.

Until recently, there was no major competitor to Hero Honda, except Bajaj Auto. While Bajaj had problems in the scooter market to be sorted out, Hero Honda had no such hassles. The gradual shift in consumer preference away from scooters and towards motorcycles has also worked in Hero Honda’s favour.
