Great Combination of Looks, Power & Mileage

The review is based on my knowledge and experience that I got from this bike till date, any discrepancy is highly regretted.

WHY HUNK..?

I was having Bajaj Caliber 115 since 4 years. When it started giving me problem, I decided to sold it out and buy a 150cc bike for me. I went through lot of reviews on Mouthshut.com. There were many bikes in this segment like Pulsar, Unicorn, Apache rtr, FZ, Hunk & CBZ Extreme but I bought Hunk. Before writing about HUNK, Below are the reason why I didn’t buy any other bike that is mentioned above.

Pulsar : I personally like this bike and I have driven this bike more than 100 kms at a stretch and found it good. Initial pickup is mind blowing, mileage is around 50, looks are great but I still didn’t buy this bike just because its engine is not reliable, it used to give problems after 1 or 2 years.

Unicorn : I personally don’t like the looks of this bike, its out dated but as far as engine is concern, its one of the best in its class, mileage is also great, around 50-55 but I wanted my bike to look good as well so I didn’t even take a test drive of this bike.

Apache rtr : It is also a nice bike. My friend has got this bike so I have driven this bike also. It has got looks, sporty style & power but when you reach 60 kmph, this bike vibrates like hell and its sporty sitting posture was not comfortable for me and I suspect on the reliability of TVS Engines.

Yamaha FZ : This bike has got everything I suppose . it has got great looks, style & Yamaha engine which is so far so good. but for me, it was overpriced and it was out of my budget.

CBZ Extreme : One of my friends has this bike. When I driven his bike, I found it great. Engine was really smooth but I didn’t like the looks.

So... last but not by any mean the least..

HUNK : I bought this bike on November 2008 from Khanna Automobiles, New Delhi for Rs. 60180/- on road. There are following points which make this bike worth buying :-

Engine : It has got Honda’s 149.2 cc engine with the power of 14.4 PS @ 8500 rmp with Advanced tumble flow technology. When you put the first gear and accelerate, it doesn’t feel like you are riding 150 cc bike. Initial pickup on first gear is not as per my liking but after that, throttle response is exceptional. Even with heavy pillion rider, it pulls efficiently and smoothly reaches 0-60 kmph in no time, may be in 5 seconds. In Delhi it’s difficult to drive beyond 70 but still one day I crossed 100 and I am sure it can go beyond that. It doesn’t vibrate at the speed of 60 but it vibrates little bit in the speed range of 60-70 but after 70 it is again as smooth as feather. Engine is very much quiet, It doesn’t make unnecessary sound like one year old pulsar. My bike has covered 13000 kms in almost one year without giving any sort of trouble. Gear box is good but not great, could have been much better because sometimes it feels a bit hard to change the gear and it feels as there is less engine oil in gear box but thank god it hasn’t got false neutral problem like Pulsar & Apache rtr.

Rating : 9/10

Looks : Side look of this bike is Extra ordinary, mind blowing & fantastic. Tank cowls make it look amazing. Looks are sporty from side angle but when you look at it from front or rear it doesn’t look like a 150 cc bike. Front head light is just ok, it doesn’t look great and so is rear tail lamp, its worst in its class. I think, the major drawback in its beauty is tail lamp. It is small like 100 cc bike and it doesn’t have LED. Indicators are transparent and look stylish.

Rating : 8/10

Console panel : In the world of digital, it has got analogue console panel which is red in colour. Speedo meter is in middle of the console panel which has got trip meter as well, you can use trip meter for calculating mileage. In its left side there is a techo meter and on the right side there is a fuel indicator.

Rating : 8/10

Seat : Seat is great in looks and comfortable for the driver but it’s not very comfortable for the pillion because it is somewhat hard, pillion gets tired even after half an hour drive. Will be perfect if little bit more cushion is provided.

Rating : 8/10

Suspensions : It has got Telescopic hydraulic suspensions in the front and Gas Reservoir Suspensions in the rear which are the best in this segment. Especially front suspensions are superb. Your body doesn’t feel stress on the bumpy roads.

Rating : 10/10

Handling : This bike has got 146 kgs weight and 18” MRF tyres ( with tuffup tubes ) hence it provides the best combination of handling, durability and riding comfort. You can take sharp turns in traffic without any hiccups. Bike has got great balance, sometimes I don’t feel like I am driving so much heavy bike like hunk. Sitting posture is Sporty yet comfortable, you don’t feel strain on your back. Bike doesn’t lose its control when you suddenly stop your bike... Thanks to Front Disc & rear drum brake.

Rating 10/10

Service Network : Hero honda’s service network is good, much better than Honda and Yamaha. I don’t get time except Sundays and on Sundays there is huge rush so I need to book a service on phone and they give a particular time to reach there for servicing and it takes atleast 3 hours to get my bike serviced.
