Saregamapa began with its second season of challenge. Zee is spear heading the program without Gajendraji, the pioneer of Saregama for the past decade. This edition is similar to the previous Challenge held in 2005.
The Challenge 2007 has lots of new things - new host, new mentors & more international participants. New host of the show is Aditya Narayan, son of ever melodious Udit Narayan. Aditya is charismatic, carrying on anchoring in his young shoulders, doing reasonably good job and would learn a lot as the show progresses.
New mentors are Bappi Lahri with Josh Gharana and Vishal Shekhar with Hit it Gharana. The old gharanas Ismail Darbar’s Yalgar and Himesh Reshamiya’s Rock continue.
The contestants have been selected from corners of India through open auditions. Pakistani & Middle East counterparts have come from Saregamapa Middle East Challenge 2007. Others have been chosen through seperate auditions in various countries - Canada, Africa, UK.
The judges for the first round included nightangle of music Asha Bhonsle and Ustad Ghulam Ali. The second round judges are Rajesh Roshan and Khayyam.
The format is similar to the first season. How ever the sad part is this time contestants except the pakistani participants are not upto the mark. Also constant fighting between the mentors is irritating.
