Heyy Baby, you did entertain us !!

Sajid Khan, this man, ripped apart, ridiculed, laughed at so many movies during his TV shows(late 90’s and early 2000)..He has criticized movies, actors, movie-makers very openly during his shows...So what happens when this man himself decides to make a movie...**Does he go the "Khalid Mohammed" way??

Well not exactly..Because Heyy Baby may not be an exraordinary film, or a classic but it is definitely entertaining...Sajid scores in the following areas in his first directorial outing - theme of the film, choice of actors, locations and a blend of comedy/emotions....

However, given the amazing and talented people he had on his command, the movie still doesn’t pack enough punch..Ofcourse Heyy Baby cud have been much much better....Heyy Baby is about 3 friends - **Arush, Ali and Tanmay(played by Akshay, Fardeen and Ritesh).

The title song summarizes their life very well...They live in Sydney and are enjoying their life to the fullest...Their everyday routine consists of work and flirting and sleeping around with hot gals....All these good times come to an end when, one fine day, someone leaves a baby at their door step with a letter which just says "Kutte Kamine apni beti ko sambhal" :))

But they dont know, whose baby is this?? They list out all the girls they slept with in the past one year and try to find the baby’s origin...But no results....Taking care of the baby, proves to be a very difficult task for the trio..Of course changing nappies, cleaning potties, feeding the baby is much more difficult then flirting babes...This affects their work as well....

All 3 have bad day at work and suffer some losses..Frustrated, they decide to dump the baby at an orphanage...They do it and then are having a drink at a bar, their faces dont look very happy ..It starts raining and worried about the baby, they rush to the place and find the baby drenched in rain...They rush to the hospital...The baby is said to be critical...

The guys realize their mistake and feel very much guily...But miraculously the baby survives..The guys decide to mend their ways and devote themselves to the baby...Gradually they get fond of the baby(they name it Angel) and the baby is the heart of their lives....They cant live without the baby...Alls well, untill one fine day the mother of the baby Esha(Vidya Balan) storms inside their house with a lawyer and cops to claim her child..

Who is Esha??And who is the father of the child??   Answers are with Arush...The 2nd half of the story goes in a flashback involving Arush and Esha, what happend between them. And then the trio along with Esha’s father (Boman Irani) try to convince Esha, get forgiveness from her and more importantly get their Angel Home. The screenplay is full of comic and emotional scenes..Some scenes will have u laugh and some would leave u moist eyed...

That’s where Sajid scores..He blends comedy and sentiments well..There are numerous sequences which involve you as a viewer(comic and emotional) -

  1. The reaction of the guys when the baby lands at their doorstep.

  2. The 3 guys making a list of the probable mothers and going confirm :)) (hilarious)...,

  3. The complete sequence of the guys dumping the baby and realising it as their mistake..

  4. The song wherein they gradually start loving the baby..

5.There is a sequence where Fardeen goes to Vidya’s house as Prof. Parimal..This one is gud as well...But there are scenes which try and force you to laugh..The initial sequences of the guys running around to look after the baby is poorly executed..

The scenes try to look funny, but they are not...Also Boman Irani’s antics doesnt raise any laughs...Some scenes are repitiveAlso post interval, the movie is plain ordinary(untill climax)....The whole Akshay-Vidya track cud have been done better or shortened...But somehow the positives outnumber the negatives :)Performances:-Akshay Kumar dominates the show..

He looks like a seasoned actor in humorous roles these days..His comic timing and dialogue delivery is awesome...Post interval, in emotional sequences, again he does well...But, how we wish that the other actors with him are given enough scope.Riteish is establishing himself as an out an out comic actor..He does well and comdey comes to him very naturally...

Fardeen is good and natural, but gets overshadowed by Akshay and sometimes Riteish too...However, as mentioned previously, he is awesome in the whole "Parimal" sequence...Also fardeen seems to have put on weight...He needs to loose all extra fab...Vidya balan is brilliant..She comes on screen only at the interval...

But her character gives the story a twist...And she portrays the role very well...Boman Irani, in my opinion, is wasted in this movie...Music : - The music is good..It gels with the story..The title track is shot well and stylishly..The song involving the three men and baby is melodious and moreover goes with the story very well..Rest tracks are good and hummable....Screenplay : - Overall the screenplay is good..

But some unnecessary and reptitive sequences cud have been avoided..Direction : - Sajid Khan does a commendable job...But, wheteher he is a talented director remains to be seen...Only, his forthcoming ventures can answer...Other technical aspects - Cinematography, background score and editing are fine...My rating - 3/5Opinion - Not a must watch.....Go for it if you want to pass your time...You wont be disappointed...!!!
