High School MusicalMy thoughts! This is the biggest piece of cheese I have seen all Christmas! Great for the children but not what I would call a classic musical, they just dont make them like they used to!I have heard so much hype about this film, that I decided to watch it for myself! I have to say I was personally disappointed! I would defiantly say this is one for the kids! It is so bad it is funny! I actually laughed throughout because I could not believe what I was seeing ! It is a total rip off from Grease, Grease 2, Shes All That and various other American teen movies! I was hoping to see something original but I guess my hopes where far to high! The StorySet in an American High School this musical is along the same plot as Grease.
Troy the High School heart throb and basket ball star meets Gabriella the school geek and super genius whilst on holiday. The pair meet over karaoke and really hit off, after the holidays end they both go their separate ways.First day back at school and what shock Gabriella mum has moved to area and she has started the same school as Troy. Troy is embarrassed about his singing and asks Gabriella not to mention it anyone as his friends will think him un cool. At the same time Gabriella is trying to hide her own geeky identity. The High School is auditioning for its latest musical and after much deliberating Troy and Gabriella decide to audition. If only it was so easy.
Sharpey Evans and her brother Ryan Evans are always cast with the lead roles in the High School Musicals and do not take kindly to the competition, together they set out to stop the pair from having a chance in the limelight. Sharpey and Ryan are the least of the couples worries when the basket ball team and The science geeks decide they want to put a stop to this escapade as well. Songs & DancesThe songs where all really cheesy and I have to say Sharpey and Ryan really annoyed me, I know that their characters where supposed to be annoying but it was so bad it wasnt even enjoyable. And dont even get me started on the basket ball team singing whilst dancing with basket balls! It really was a bad attempt to rip of Grease for the modern day audience! The whole thing was childish and far too American! Most musicals have at least one song that you can remember after watching it but I cant remember a single one! Characters/ActorsTroy Bolton is played by Zac Effron.
Troy is the High School star, he is captain of the basket ball team and everyones friend. After meeting Gabriella and finding out he can sing his passion for basket ball takes a back seat much to the disappointment of his father who is also the basket ball coach!Zac Effron has shot to fame in America after High School Musical and I am afraid to say that he is filming for High School Musical 2 at the moment. He is a good-looking kid with an ok voice but he should quit while hes ahead!Gabriella Montez is played by Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Gabriella is new to school, and in love with Troy after to meeting him in the school holidays. She desperately wants to fit in and keep her geeky past a secret.
She has an amazing voice and wants to be in the musical with Troy no matter what it takes. Vanessa Anne Hudgens can sing, she has a stunning set of lungs for one so young and is the best thing in this film, she is also going to be in High School Musical 2. Personally I think she should ditch the musicals and head to the stage or perhaps just work on her music. Sharpey Evans is played by Ashley Tisdale, Sharpey thinks she rules the school and is the school star because her and her brother star in all the school musicals. She does not take kindly to completion and trys her hardest to ensure that Troy and Gabriella dont get in. Ashley Tisdale is unfortunate in that her character is so annoying! She an ok singer but has one of those really awful whiney American sounds!
Ryan Evans is played by Lucas Brabeel, Ryan is Sharpeys equally annoying brother, the pair star in all the school musicals together and he intends to help his sister put a stop to the competition. Lucas Brabeel is not quite annoying as Ashley, he has actually got a nice voice. Just a shame he doesnt get much of an opportunity to show it! Where can I buy? This film is available from Amazon on DVD new for £8.93 or new and used from £6.06.
