As the movie’s name spontaneously suggest, ’Highway’ is a journey . Imtiaz Ali yet again (other one being Rockstar) retains Sufi soul in his movie. Journey to peace, truth and realization.
Honestly, a very brave attempt by Imtiaz Ali. Movie romances roads and landscapes of beautiful India. Camera work is candid. Movie has its moments in its panorama, complimenting music by A R Rahman and light/witty sequences. Silence too has a part to play in this movie. (you will realize when you watch it) Randeep Hooda is amazing in his role.
Movie belongs to Alia Bhatt who gets all attention and camera footage in movie. Obviously she was given a big responsibility with this role and she has pulled it off well, but not amazing; as at many places she looks unconvincing. Movie goes monotonous in its second half and plot barely seems moving. Denouement (portion from climax to end) looks extended and ends in catastrophe for audience.
Overall, this movie is well made, soothing and you will adore freshness and chirpiness of Alia. Although it will bore you a bit but its definitely one time watch. Definitely will not be liked by all (like audience who liked Gunday) .
