We visited Gopalaswamy Betta recently for a one day trip. Its about 80-90 Kms from Mysore. Betta in Kannada means a hill. It’s a nice calm place with a small temple on the hill top and nothing else. You can go by a vehicle till the temple, then park your vehicle there and go exploring the surrounding area. Or else you can go trekking all the way to the hill top. We preferred going by vehicle and the journey upward was very picturesque.
The temple and the surrounding area were covered in mist and the view was simply beautiful. We went for a short trek around the temple on the small foot paths that we found in between the grass, shrubs and bushes that form the vegetation there. We trekked for almost 1.5 km down the hill from the temple and took a break on the huge rocks there. Sitting there on the rocks all by ourselves, with the hills surrounding us on all sides and sun light playing its magic with mist time flew by and it was time for us to trek back to the temple where our vehicle was parked. We also went to the Bandipur safari which is on the way but was not worth it as we only got to look at a few Deers, elephants and nothing else
.
But one can try out the elephant rides that they have there if you have already not experienced it before. Bandipur resort connected restaurants are the only ones available near there. Good for people interested in doing trekking or the religious types.
