Ambassador is the true car for India. Imported and bigger cars are for vanity. Smaller ones for young people to commute to work. This is a family car-ideal for stations/airports.You must have seen a family arrive at station in 2 Maruti as one is insufficient for an Indian travellers needs. The rugged built is extra protection on highways.Spares are way cheaper, and believe me, with chaotic driving condtions you do need spares. It is more reliable on water logged streets. If water gets into the brakes, a few pumps at the pedal and you are ready to resume your journey. Those who deride it for beong old design could do well to find out how many years the Beetle was produced. Mini Cooper is still a raze in USA. . Ambassador was my first car and continues to be my favourite todate though I have used most Indian cars.
I recently saw a retrofitted Ambassador called AVIGO. It is yummy with remote gears, reading lamp and clock. Pricewise it compared very favourably
