There is no need to change the overall out side shape of the car.Changes such as Body coloured bumpers, fog lamps, rear lights, clear lens head lamps, etc are appreciable. Changes needed are more rust resistant materials for body, ABS, powerful petrol engines having more fuel efficiency, reverse camera, music system, GPS, infotainment and similar other modern gadgets.
I own 1987 model petrol ambassador which satisfies my requirements except that very few mechanics know its repairing, mileage from 10 - 12 km for short trips to long high way trips and less rust resistant than modern cars. You can take the vehicle to places having "pucca" roads as well as "kacha" roads(roads pliable only by jeeps and not by any cars having low ground clearance having "feather touch" suspension system). Your repair cost per month will be less than Rs.1000/- per month on an average. This vehicle seems to me as a body guard to the traveller as said by the Former Kerala Govt Speaker Late Sri. G Karthikeyan(former Minister for Electricity, Govt of Kerala in a TV interview) as it is more resistant to impact during collision than any other Indian cars, that can be visualized by comparing damages to all types of Indian cars met with accidents. Accidents rates, death rates during accidents and damages to the vehicle during accidents are very less compared to any other Inidan cars. This is the only sedan car in India produced upto 2014 having seating for 3 person on front seat. This is the only mediocre priced Indian cars having rear wheel drive and large dicky space. Only Indian car with steering gear(only those who used this can feel the difference in handling with floor gear). This car offers an elegant look which no other indian car can offer. Modern people nowadays go for old looks in their hair cuts, dress styles etc incorporating modern techniques. Hence similar techniques may be incorporated in the case of ambassador car also to keep pace with the modern trends. The makers M/s Hindustan Motors may go for a campaign for old ambassador cars(more than 25 years old) and project their durablitiy and trust worthy performance for more than half a century in this country. Performance of this vehicle, exported to other countries may also be evaluated. These may evade out the bad images of ambassador in the minds of new generation people. Rear suspension may be changed as coil spring with big sized wheels for feather touch suspension for selected models for those who need feather touch suspension. Saloon type and trekker model may also be reintroduced.Above all, more refined petrol and diesel engines giving more mileage may be introdued. The Central Govt. avoided it as departmental vehicle, only after the company stopped production of the car in May 2014. This itself shows its relaibaility. Reincarnation of this worlds No.1 taxi car may be done by introducing gadgets and mileage that other modern cars offer for which, India should look in this line. If nobody in India in need of this, it can be exported to other parts of the world for those who convinced this as Worlds No.1 taxi car. Let any other car companys may take the task of reincarnation of this car, if it is difficult for M/s Hindustan Motors to restart manufcaturing with modernisation. Whether "make in India" slogan may be applied in the reincarnation. Being happy of owning a worlds No.1 product from India, I may suggest that Central govt. may look into this matter for keep producing this car; a worlds No.1 product from India.
