Prince of Belair revisited...

Movies are of three categories...One is the masterpieces. The second is not masterpieces, but entertaining and amusing. The third is crappy goop! Hitch fortunately belongs to the second category. It belongs to that category which will never ever make it to any award nominations, but will be remembered for the amusing few minutes it gives you.

The plot

Will Smith is a heart-broken geek who ironically choses to be a ’’Date doctor’’ helping other non-entities in making progress in gaining the attention of their heart-stealers. He chooses his clients and not vice-versa. Enter Kevin James, a nerd who is hopelessly in love with his boss. He is fat, smart and too shy to express his feelings. Will Smith takes it upon himself to help this poor soul to gain the affections of his lady-love. In the meantime, he himself finds an attractive woman, who he desperately tries to impress.

The review

As mentioned above, this kind of a plot of course gives room for a lot of goof-ups and comical situations, which the movie has in several scenes. The movie may not be hilarious to the point of making you fall off your seat, but it will definitely get some chuckles! About the cast, Will Smith and Kevin James are the cool-man-with-geek combination. They remind you of Will in the 80’s sitcom-Fresh Prince of Belair- where he always knew what was cool and his geeky cousin was always clueless!

Also funny are the scenes where Mr.cool is not so cool when it comes to the girl that he has his heart set on. Be it allergies, accidental strikes etc. The lead actors’ comic timing is pretty good. The supporting cast members do a good job.

Overall, I would recommend this movie, if you are bored of watching sappy and mushy stuff post-Valentine’s day or if you have been bogged down by overly serious movies!
