There and back again - A tale of a Hobbit

The Hobbit is a tale by J. R. R. Tolkien about the adventures of a simple fun loving hobbit – Bilbo Baggins of the Shire. It is a kind of prequel for the legendary Lord of the Rings trilogy and takes places a few decades before it.

It’s a tale about Bilbo, who likes to eat & drink & make merry, but is dragged along an adventure with 13 dwarfs, and a wizard (Gandalf the Grey), to search for far-off treasures. How the innocuous little hobbit later turns out to be the most important member of the expedition is later revealed as Tolkien takes u through a exhilarating ride along forests and mountains and rivers and strange creatures.

The book features many of the characters u will later find in the LOTR like Gandalf & Gollum & Elrond & the Orcs(who are called as Goblins), and also features the ‘One Ring’.

Tolkien writes the story in a light way, so it makes for a great read for children and grown-ups alike. He is detailed in his description but takes care that it never gets rambling or gory. He is a master of storytelling and no wonder he is still regarded as one of the best of the 20th century.

The great thing about the book is that it gets even better when u read it the second time. It’s a must read for everyone who is a big LOTR fan & for those who aren’t, believe me - you will be one when you read this book.
