With Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, you get exactly what you need - sleek cars, shootouts, comedy, and over-the-top action.

This spin-off has just enough self-aware humour, a touch of emotion, a few surprise cameos, and gallons of set-piece fuel to stand on its own beefy legs.

3.5/5
The action veers from standard issue car chases in London to a staggering set-piece in which several cars and a helicopter are hooked together.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with a little dumb fun, but Hobbs & Shaw comes with lots of un-fun accoutrements.

Just watched it today with my friend Alondra at the San Miguel Cinemax Theater. It was quite hilarious! A true comedy if I might say so myself. Thanks to all the humor in this new Fast & Furious installment, it is by far my favorite film in the whole franchise. Following the previous chapter titled Fate of the Furious, it's interesting to see how the Rock's journey unfolds with his new sidekick, Shaw. Instead of reintroducing the old characters like the late Paul Walker's character Brian O'Connor or Dominic Toretto played by Vin Diesel, Dwayne's look alike, it tells a very entertaining action story of these two, funny misfits. The Rock Dwayne Johnson is quite buff I agree, and a very fine looking Polynesian celebrity, but I also really like his sidekick Shaw a lot. He is a funny fellow. In fact, the two of them together make a great team when it comes to comedy. I was cracking up the whole time in the theater. And to think that they actually end up becoming a band of unlikely heroes by joining forces with Shaw's sister, the stealthy spy lady who helps them by tracking down a deadly virus and extracting it before it falls into the hands of the villain. Also about this movie, I love how some of the film locations were partly shot in London and Moscow and the finale for the big showdown in the Rock's home island of Samoa where all his Tahitian family and friends live. This aspect really connected to me, because the previous Summer I embarked on my first trip to Europe, visiting cities that included London, Florence and Rome. During the Summer before that, my parents took me on a trip to the tropical terrain of Maui located in the Hawaiian islands, a landscape reminiscent to Samoa. By watching Hobbs and Shaw, I felt as if I were revisiting those places, and it brought back a lot of memories, making me feel nostalgic. I appreciate this movie for being uniquely different than its prequels and focusing more on comedy rather than just pure action. Lastly in this film, I like that we get the meet the Rock's daughter and see his personal relationship with her. She kind of reminded me of the title character in Disney's Moana, which the Rock additionally starred in. So those are all my opinions of this film. In a nutshell, I appreciate it for being funny, different, transporting me back to places that remind of previous trips, the Rock's daughter, and the humor between the two misfits mentioned in the film's title. One thing I'm critical about is the villain being black as I am anti-white supremacist. Also dislike Dwayne's sexual relationship with Shaw's sister as they're different ages, not to mention the mass destruction. Nevertheless, it's damn funny as I said and quite entertaining to watch, so my rating would probably be a 9/10. I absolutely recommend it for everyone, particularly fans.
