The OTHER ''real'' Hockey !!

I see that this catgeory is somewhat misleading to those that live in the Western world in North America and in South America. In India, Hockey is called Hockey whereas we call that type of Hockey, Field Hockey. The hockey I wish to give a synopsis on is the one that is played on Ice. Can’t beat the real thing!

A Few Rules Without Boring You!

Ice Hockey is a sport that is played in a rink or arena on this wet solid substance known as ice. The game is divided amongst 2 teams where 5 players (3 forwards, 2 defenceman) are on each team and 1 goalie to protect eachother teams goal.

The rink is about 80 yards long and is separated by a centre red middle line and two blue lines at the halfway points between the red line and the end of each rink.

The object of the game is to use the sticks which are longer than field hockey sticks and slap, wrist or backhand the puck (a rubber cylindrical object into the net.

Some Strategies to Use if You Play Hockey

The drop pass is the most effective because it makes the defenders confused. When you have the puck, simply go in front of one of your players and softly drop the puck to them and he will have an open shot, because the defender that is following you will continue to follow you. Your teammate will have a clear open shot.

The crossover, 2 players cross eachothers pass so that the defenders have to regroup and take the person who is closest to them. If they are dumb enough, they will follow the same guy and potentially collide.

No look passes are the greatest. Trick the defender into not anticipating your intent with the puck, look left but quickly toss it right to a partner.

My Favourite Sports Personality

I guess from all they hype I hear from Indian people about some dude named Sachin who is the King of Cricket; Wayne Gretzky is the King of Hockey. Wayne Gretzky has over 6 Stanley Cups to reference to his name, has numerous records including Most Goals in a Season and Ever, Assists in a Season and Ever, Points in a Season and Ever and around 70 more.

He is the greatest hockey player to ever have played. He was not drafted, he simply came up from the minors at the age of 18 and was to be the best hockey player of all time. His NHL career started with the Edmonton Oilers, then off to Los Angeles, the St Louis Blues and the New York Rangers.

He was a classy player on and off the ice and greed was never associated with his name. He is a proud Canadian and has made Canadians across Canada even more prouder.

Overall Thoughts on the ’’Real’’ Hockey

Ice Hockey is an incredibly fun sport to play. The only problem is that you have to learn how to skate. Skating is fun and easy and it will get better as long as you practice a lot. To some it comes natural, to some it could take years. Overall, adding a stick and a puck is so much fun! Will you be the next Wayne Gretzky? Or the next Michel Petit! (Michel Petit Joke will most likely be understood by the true hockey fans!)
