Im from Switzerland and have been living in India for quite sometime, and Im yet to find a store that really deliver value and service. But hubby and I went to Home Town last August, initially to check for CD racks and bedside lamps, which turned out to be in for immediate take away, but while we were there we saw a nice shoe rack and decided to buy it, the price was decent the quality was nice as well so why not?
It took us 10 minutes to get a salesperson to come, who immediately and coldly inform us that its 15 days for delivery and ask us if its ok? Now that alone is bad news in my book, I worked in the home decoration field, and you cold not go for a less attractive marketing skill, but hubby and I still said "Fine" and the lady dumped us a order reciept form to fill, hubby and I did put our address BOTH our mobile phone numbers and signed, then had to wait 30 minutes to get to the billing counter for purchase order.
The clerk there entered all the informations in the computer and printed the definitie receipt and gave it to us, hubby was careful to check what was on it, and noticed that only his mobile phone number was printed, that too with an 8 instead of a 6 in it and pointed it to the guy who said that it was ok because the handwirtten slip would be used. Hubby asked several time to have the reciept changed but the guy refused certifying it was ok. I then started smelling fish but decided to keep shut and scold them in due time on September 2 when the rack was due.
September 2 comes, and I spent 2 hours from 11am to 1pm trying to call them to know the status, and when I got hold of them surely the phone number they had was the wrong one, so I asked them to put mine instead as DH was out of the country anyway, they did and told me they would call me back in an hour. An hour later with still no call I tried to call again, and once more had to struggle for 2 hours to get a hold of them to then be told by the lady that the delivery could not happen as they couldnt reach me on the number on the slip! I lost my cool and told her I updated the number, she informed me that my new number was not valid, and I asked for the manager, 10 minutes later I have him on the phone and explain the issue, he is appalled about the phone number issue, I tell him the name of the offending clerk as printed onthe reciept and arrange for a deliver on September 4. Comes the day, and I call several time again to be told that my new number is not valid, and upon checking it seem one idiot again had number issue inverting two digits despite my checking several time with them on September 2. And by September 4th in the evening the manager calls me saying that once more the delivery will not happen until the 5th. On the 5th they finally got that right, a rude delivery person dumps the box in my living room informing me that the assembly team whil come later. I waste another day trying to get hold of home town, and its at 9pm that I decided to take the matter into my own hand and build the thing myself. Im trained in light carpentry and built my share of IKEA furniture back home so it wasnt a problem. But till date the assembly team never showed up, never called or anything, I suspect they too had the wrong number.
Ill never order from Home Town again thats for sure.
