HMIL introduced the indigenous product Activa to the india buyer over a decade ago, over the years, the vehicle has seen 3 face lifts and body panel changes, to ensure appearances remained relevant to customers. Besides the engine too underwent a change with an upgrade to the present 109CC.
The Aviator, which is the successor of the Activa in S.E.A markets, hasnt yet caught the fancy of the customers at large in India, chiefly because of its plastic panels compared to the metal body of the Activa. a strong buying point for an average Indian customer. I was offered the Aviator at a discounted price for immediate delivery, but I decided to wait.
Overall the package though from its name seems a little dated, it is yet value for money, reasons:
1.HONDA brand, reliability that comes along with it.
2.Good Service network( good in Bangalore)
Trustworthy and reliable body construction
Engine with decent torque.
The resale value.
Though today we have several automatic scooters in the market, the activa stands apart from the rest.
There are some points, though esp:
Small fuel tank
Absence of telescopic forks for the front
A rather weak horn
Weak headlamp
Long waiting period for color choices(black, white seem to take an eternity)
However, since the Aviators positioning as a replacement, is evident, HMIL, may not re look at the activa for a further overhaul any time soon.
Against other competitors like the Access 125, Swish 125, TVS Wego, M&M Rodeo, the Activa is not the most advanced, but since the product has been around for long, enjoys a great customer recall.
that, Activa has already become a generic term synonymous with any "gear-less scooter"!
