Reliable companion

I’m a regular user of this bike for the past 6 years.

It is not really a usual thing for a manufacturer like HONDA to reintroduce a bike in the Indian market that too without any major update/change regarding the engine or styling owing to the never ending or rather ever increasing demand for a discontinued one. This fact says pretty much everything about this bike. Like everyone says, this bike is reliable, fuel efficient, comfortable and cheap to maintain.

But like every other motorcycle, this one too have some short comings.

  1. BRAKES - Even though this bike has a disk setup at the front, it lacks the bite and stopping power. It really affects the confidence of the rider especially at speeds beyond say 60kmph.

  2. Bike HATES LEANING - This motorcycle cannot be thrown into corners. It hesitates to lean beyond a certain degree. I’m not expecting a commuter like this to give crazy lean angles but its sad when we have to really reduce the speed in corners.

  3. This motorcycle is not having an engine oil filter, literally.  Instead of a regular oil filter this bike has a small mesh screen to remove unwanted particles from the oil. Cleaning or replacing this screen is not easy either. One has to remove the foot peg, kicker and the the engine cover to get access to the screen.

This fact is not at all a deal breaker, but for a few, like me, who always likes to keep the bike/engine in its mint condition, its heart breaking.

If these 3 points are set aside, I’m a big fan of this bike.

The SEATING POSITION is a big USP of this bike. Seating position is really upright which makes it very comfortable and relaxing for short as well as long rides. Every rider, short, lean, fat, tall riders will feel  the same. The seats are also long enough to comfortable accommodate a pillion.

Unicorn 150 stuns every one for its FUEL EFFICIENCY. Provides an average fuel economy of around 56 kmpl but can vary considerably from 47kmpl to 64kmpl depending on the traffic/road condition, riding style, load etc

Even though HONDA presents this bike as an executive commuter this is a very reliable long distance companion too.
