Hi guys.I just planned to upgrade myself from 100 cc segment to 150+ segment.as unicorn 150 was not in the market, I simply ended with this Unicorn 160.
I compared this with gixxer and fz, but I feel this bike is OK for a family drive
I purchased unicorn 160 STD in January 2016.
Upto now I completed 4500+ Km.overall am getting a mileage of around 49
I want to share my experience with this bike
Prior to this bike I had my passion plus.I had ride around 1.6 Lakhs kms in 8 years.I didnt had any big issues with this bike
But in Unicorn 160……this is my mixed observations(+/-)
If you ride more than 30 kms, the engine sounds like a 10 year old bike
The engine heat will make you to doubt, is any thing cheased inside engine
The neutral gear indicator will glow, but the gearbox was in some gear, and will push you in trouble
The petrol tank cap will not lock rigidly.we can easily shake the cap even after locked
The head lamp illumination was not sufficient for higher speeds
This bike seat is sufficient for 2 members+ one kid
For continuous travel more than 45 minutes, we feel a heating sensation in seating due to hard seat
The gear shift was not smooth as my old bike
The rear mono suspension is very stiff, and it is not good for both single/pillion ride
While riding 100kmph speed also, there is no big vibrations and also the stability is good
The kick start will not work properly, it needs more than 10 strokes for a early morning start up.but the self start is very good.
In mileage point of view, upto now, I didnt get more than 49, I tried in highways too, but no change
Even in lower speeds(less than 30 kmph), on applying rear brake alone, definitely the bike drolls and it will push you down, I think to avoid this only HONDA gone for CBS option
Low grade plastics are used for bike looks.even a child can easily damage it
I feared about the ground clearance, but surprisingly it was good only.I didnt struckup with any speed breakers even with 180kg load
The rider seat is too narrow, when compared too pillion seat, so the seat is not comfort for a long ride
The pillion foot rest is correctly placed
Like my old bike, I cant use the side hanger to carry, because the silencer is too high .but our dealer assembled the side hanger hook only to raise their profit
The steer handle is very comfort, and it is turning around good, so you can easily penetrate between the vehicles stopped in a traffic or traffic signal
The gear lever is as same as passion plus, not like old Unicorn 150.if you want to shift the gear smoothly, then you have to rest your foot touching both the front and back pedals of the gear lever.
Unfortunately if you try gear shift with pressing either front or back pedal only, then definitely gear will jams in between
I visited service center and argued a lot about engine sound/mileage/overheat.but no use.still 2 free services are pending to me, but I think it is no use
Simply they wash and change the oil and they charge me
So I stopped visiting service centers
According to me., (with a riding experience of 1.6 lakhs km)this Unicorn 160 is an below average bike.
Please dont compare this bike with the king of kings unicorn 150
