Honda unicorn - good bike - bad service

HI,

I am from Goa and have a unicorn for past 1.8 years. To start with the bike is really good and smooth. I have not had a problem with the engine at all for all this time. I travel about 60KM daily, mostly on highway and have been getting consistent milage of 59-61 kmpl from day one.

THe gear shifts are good and the bike accelerates well at watever speed you twist the trottle. The lights are no very good, but do their job. THe horn though was very weak, I got this adjusted from a mechanic and it is now louder. Aparantly there is a small screw on the horn which changes the pitch of the sound, he just adjusted it and the sound became louder.

the only problem I have with the bike is it is very heavy, and with a full tank it becomes more heavier. While riding it is not an issue, but when moving it around for parking it really is troublesome.

Apart from the engine and transmission which is of Honda quality, the other smaller parts are not up to the mark. It seeks that Honda has compromised on these areas to reduce the price. I have had to replace the spedometer cable 3 times as it gets cut just below the place it connects to the spedometer.   I found rust starting to form within the first month of purchase on some areas. Have been treating it with WD40 ever since and now it is fine.

At servicing I have just got it serviced because of the warrenty. The guys doing the servicing done seem to know anything beyond oiling the bike and washing it.

recently I got a servicing done from honda dealer. Ever since the servicing the bike has started performing badly. I want to describe the problem just in case someone of you have faced the same and can suggest something to me.

Firstly the RPM is not stedy, the RPM needle keeps jumping about 1mm. Secondly the bike starts at 1400RPM of idling, but after riding it for some time the RPM actually drops. after a 30 km ride to office or home, when I stop the bike the RPM is very unstedy and below 1000rpm. Before switching off the bike if I put it on sidestand the RMM starts further going down and finallyl the bike stops.

I am not sure what has gone wrong in the servicing, but the guys are not able to sort it out. I have got the Filter and sparkplug gap checked personally. I now want to check the fuel nut on the carburator. But I dont know what the ideal setting is, the manual does not mention anyting. Please comment if any of you have the same problem.

Otherwise, if the weight is not a problem then this is a fantastic bike.
