I have been using Unicorn for 7 years now and it has been an altogether bad experience. The very reason I had bought it was its brand and its engine performance. But it has only made life more miserable beyond imagination. I had earlier had a Bajaj 4S Champion which though was a 100cc bike, but still was one of the best of its kind w.r.t mileage, maintenance and overall performance.
Unicorn Pros : Looks, seating, mono-suspension, overall handling
Unicorn Cons :
Piece of Plastic : No doubt most of the modern bikes are a piece of plastic, but there should be some amount of sturdiness, which is completely absent in the Unicorn.
The tail lamp is ever loose, besides the side body extending from the tail lamp to the engine is very delicately made with not so strong fittings and there is no replacement available for it.
The indicators are hopelessly bad and tend to break for no reason.
Mileage : Fuel consumption is very high. It has never extended beyond 40-45 kms in these 7 years despite single use and good maintenance (about 500 kms in a month).
Servicing : The authorised honda service centres charge a bomb every time you go for a service, infact you have to be sure enough to carry enough cash or carry a credit card since most of the times you end up coughing up anywhere between 2k-5k.
Besides, most of the staff’s at the service center have a haughty and a ’care a damn’ attitude.
Mono shock absorber : While this was one of the strongest reasons for me to go for unicorn initially since it was the first of its kind in the Indian market, believe me over a period of time it tends to give you that "sinking feeling" unlike the normal bikes.
Hence my personal view is not to go for this bike; however I am sure individual experiences would always differ.....cheers !!
