Well, I relied on Mouthshut.coms reviews for buying a bike. I am the one user who has been reading all the reviews since Unicorn has been launched. It was last september when I had seen this beauty at an Autoshow in Bangalore. I was very much excited to see the billboards with Wanna Fly caption everywhere in the city before it was actually unveiled. If u remember, only petrol tank was visible in those ads.
I had waited for almost 3 months for the launch. I had already made up my mind to buy this one without even looking at it. When I had seen it for the first time, I was not that impressed with styling. But I liked the rear view and side view. The monoshock gives a touch of class to it. Frankly speaking, all the bikes in India should do away with dual shock absorbers to improve upon the styling. Imagine how Pulsar would look with a monoshock. It would be unbeatable.
I wasnt keen on Pulsar for a simple reason. It had become too common on road. Bajaj should do something before people get bored of it. It can improve on the rear end of the bike. Let me not write about Pulsar here.
So I test drove the bike ( I was one of the first to drive the unicorn) and clearly none could match it. It is a 139 Kg one and u feel like u are flying when u are on 60. All other bikes feel really heavy with so much weight. It has the finest of the engines (Brand Honda people..what can u expect) and it had played its cards well. Indians look at Mileage too so theyve clearly outclassed all other bikes (i mean 150cc) in this regard. Heard Fiero gives even better. But I never really liked the TVS bikes. This is only my personal opinion.
I do not want to give the technical details as many people wouldnt understand them. I have been using Unicorn for 10 months now. The mileage was never below 52. If u drive steadily at 50 kmph then u can get a mileage of upto 55-57. But theres no fun in buying a 150CC bike and driving at 50kmph. You should rather go for a CT100. I did not have any problems with the mainenance. The braking is the best in business. The Monoshock prevents the bike to skid sideward when u apply braking suddenly (most common when u are turning and face a vehicle in front of u) and thereby u have good control over the bike.
Yeah I recommend everyone to use BP speed or Indian oil extra premium for better mileage. Use Autoglym for that extra gloss to the bike.
So people, these are my experiences with the Unicorn. Please test drive it to believe all those written in the reviews. Never rely just on this printed matter.
