If you are a bike lover, you will always dream of buying a HONDA. Well here is your chance to get one with the all new Honda Unicorn.
Unicorn is engineered and styled for the taste of the younger generation. With the 4-stroke, 150cc engine delivering 13.3 bhp. The company claims acceleration of 0-60 in 5 secs. (But Can you Drive It in India?).Let us have a glance at the Technical Specification first...
Technical Specs:
149.1 cc
13.3 BHP
13 litre fuel capacity
5 gears(1 down 4 up)
Milage 45+
The USP: For Honda the USP is the Mono-suspension, Instead of conventional twin shock absorbers in the rear, Unicorn incorporates a single, high performance shock absorber housed centrally below the seat and mounted on a much tougher frame. Advanced technology mono suspension offers superior riding comfort and excellent stability.
Also the name HONDA and the Amazing Looks this bike has, no wonder it is selling like a hot cake.
Features:The superior look and riding comfort is a special feature of this bike, although it has CDI technology it hardly adds any effect on the milage. It is the only motorcycle in India that comes equipped with a Puncture Resistant Tuff-up tube in the rear tyre which minimizes the incidents of sudden puncture.
Milage: Here is a key point to be discussed, remember this is the first bike of HONDA in India, and although the company claims a 60+ milage, the reality is only 45+ on Indian Roads. You simply cant expect a milage bike from Honda, Can You?
Price: The Price is surprisingly cheaper considering what bajaj had gone with Pulsar, Unicorn will cost you Rs. 52, 325 in Pune, Delhi and around Rs. 54, 800 in Mumbai.
Market Strategy: The Unicorn was designed to take the Pulsar Head On, however after the launch it is facing a tough competition from Bajaj Discover. One good thing which HONDA did in Delhi was to go with youth publicity in call centres, discs and also colleges, doing campaigns using young sales force. (No Chinese Kung Fu Star!)
Problem Areas: The Real problem Unicorn is facing is non-availability of bike in major towns and bookings closed till December 2004. Also Unicorn has believed to have developed a OIL LEAKAGE problem and also the vibration of tail lamp is major concern. Some 40, 000 bikes were pulled back from the market due to these reason.
Also Honda is eating into its own market with Unicorn v/s CBZ. The spares and after sales is also a reason to worry as it happened with Honda Activa.
Conclusion: The high technology which HONDA incorporates is unmatched, the looks and style are amazing. If you want a show bike to zoom ahead in colleges go for this one! It is not for an average middle class Indian who cares for milage more than style. All in all a good Bike with Great Looks! But Lets Wait and watch.
