Atlast the Unicorn is in the showroom and I tested it yesterday
Since I have discussed the features in my earlier posting, I will now post only my comments about the test ride.
Honda hypes a sporty - macho look but almost all of the people who came to the show room for test ride felt that there is nothing new in the looks of the bike and the Pulsar scores better than the Unicorn in looks. The head light is very similar to Bajaj wind and the tank and the rest of the vehicle resembles CBZ.
The tail lamp is attractive in daylight. I was surprised to see that the rear mud guard is fully plastic. I dont know if this was done to cut cost or an attempt to increase the sporty look or a combination of both. I didnt like it anyway.
The styling is better in Pulsar. Unicorn is not as tall as pulsar but its wheel base is longer. Honda claims the mileage would be 60 in Indian conditions but they say it would give 50 to 55 in city conditions.
The engine is smooth but the transmission is 1 down and 4 up. I have used such transmission in Yamaha RX but the transmission in unicorn was not very smooth. I found that the gear gets stuck between 1 and 2 (it comes to neutral). This could be a problem for the city rider. I was rather dissappointed and have decided to buy a Pulsar 150 instead. So now I can say Be Indian Buy Indian. :)
