In my view Honda Unicorn is the best bike available in India at present, infact I booked one just afrter seeing it in the showroom and taking a test ride in the showroom. For most of us our decisions of zeroing in on any vehicle depends on following parameter:
Cost
Brand Name
Overall appearance
Riding comfort(for the rider as well as pillion)
Fuel efficiency
Uniqueness
Technical innovations if any
Handling parameters
Build Quality
Now let us take first point i.e. Cost, cost of this bike is almost same as the bikes in its peer group hence no worries about that.Secondly Honda as a brand name needs no expalanation not only in India but globally too. Thirdly appearance of the bike is excellent though the same may be said about Pulsar but the finishing, paint job & Plastic parts are all which tilt the scale in favour of Unicorn.
Now riding comfort is what is most important of them all and one will have to ride it to believe it, I do not know whether it is due to single shock at the rear or its weight (139 kgs) but overall result is excellent ride quality. Fuel efficiency as claimed by company is 60 kms on road which is also good.
Uniqueness is what this bike promises at least for next 1-2 years it because of single shockup at rear and also due to the fact that Honda is not in a habit of introducing too many models too early (we can see that in Honda Activa, Honda Eterno) so we can safely assume that it will be the only bike from honda at least for near future & that certainly adds to the value( try selling Yamaha Crux you will face problems in getting good price but try to sell Yamaha Rx-100 you will get more than expected it is because Rx 100 was not only a superior product but it was not having any other variants ).
Technical innovations like single shock, CV carburetter, Tuffup tube certainly add to the value and there effect is felt as the overall satisfaction from riding the bike is improved due to incremental contribution by every design feature.
Handling parameters do have an importance apart from riding comfort a bike may be comfortable while riding if it has soft suspension but handling on curves and at speeds will make it a drawback .I think that Unicorn is a good mix of them all.
Build quality is what appeals you at once whne you look at the bike.
Finally when we look at it we find that all the features which matters fall in the categoty of Good to Excellent and price is also fair. So why not go for it?
