I wanted a bike with good comfort as I suffer form back pain sometimes. I did a test drive of Bajaj discover, Bajaj pulsar 150, Honda unicorn and Honda CBF stunner.
While the acceleration of P-150 is the best. Comfort level is highest in case of unicorn.Specially when you suddenly find a pot-hole in the middle of the road. Also mouth shut played a big part in convincing me to go for unicorn.
I purchased Honda unicorn on 2nd March 2009 from silicon Honda in Bangalore.I had paid for the vehicle in advance and dealer sent me a sms on 28th Feb 2009 that vehicle is ready for pickup.I have driven 557 km before the first service and found the bike to be very smooth.
I suffered from a problem initially that my bike engine would stop abruptly while running whenever I use it after a gap of 4-5 hours.Silicon Honda manager took me to meet the CSM himself who rectified the issue.
After that the problem never came back.Initial mileage was around 41 km/l (Speed petrol from BP).I am yet to go above 50 Km/hour speed as I want to protect the engine for first 1000 Km.Now after the first service bike, I dont feel much change in the bike. I must say bike was cleaned properly by the dealer. This time again I received the sms from the dealer that bike is ready for pick-up which is very good service.
Positives:
1) Very high comfort level.
2) Extremely stable bike.
3) Self start is very good compared to other Honda vehicles.
4) Good disc brakes
Negatives:
1) Very heavy (You wont feel once you start riding).
2) No digital meters.
3) Slow initial pick up.
Once I went straight into a pot-hole which was in the middle of the road on a one way road. The bike maintained the balance and I did not feel any back pain after the same.I would recommend the bike to people who like good comfort bike (not a racing bike). Generally Honda vehicles require less maintenance.
Honda does produce good vehicles and surprising my vehicle dealer Silicon Honda is very good. Both before and after sales service has been good. Dealer showed me different part cost for unicorn and P-150 so my myth of Honda parts being costlier was resolved.I will update the review after 2nd and 3rd service also.I would appreciate if you rate the review.
Cheers,
