I'm proud as a wing rider

After a long search of 3 months about 150 cc bike, i finally decided for Honda unicorn. First of all, I must thank to all the reviewers of mouthshut who provided their genuine opinions about unicorn. I initially tried to buy pulsar and i like it very much. Its having some good features. But i don’t like the big noise engine and its the only reason for avoiding it.

Coming to my previous bike riding history, i traveled 6 months (daily 32 kms) on my father’s bike bajaj ct100 and i got bored with the pickup.i have done a lot of search in mouthshut about the reviewers opinion and decided to unicorn. I bought my unicorn black in grateful Honda , kondapur, Hyderabad and they delivered after 60 days on 2/2/2010.

I have observed the following good things and the advantages of uni:

  1. The bike is so smooth and i got surprised with its smoothness. When i am driving my vehicle, i listen other bikes sounds(particularly pulsar) but i cant hear my uni engine sound.

  2. The seating is very much comfortable and never feel any back pain . I faced back pain with my old bike ct 100 and i clearly observed this.

  3. Handling of the bike is fantastic and this is the main advantage of this mike.

  4. Though this is the heavy weight bike in its 150cc segment, i never feel it. As i am 5 feet 9 inches with 78 kgs.

  5. The front disk breaking system is superb and it is controlling my bike very well.

  6. Mileage : when my bike was delivered, showroom provided me with 1/2 liter petrol, i immediately filled 10 liters petrol for observing petrol consumption. I maintained my bike with a speed of 40 to 55 max ( advices by showroom), i got 63 km per liter around . I observed my meter reading at 640 before the tank is having 1/2 liter petrol. There is no gimmicks . I also surprised with its mileage. I think it will give a good mileage of 55 in any speed. I usually avoided sudden raise in acceleration and sudden breaks.

7 . There may not be sudden acceleration in the bike but its very powerful after the initial start.(in contrast to pulsar).

Problems i faced before 1st service :

Of course there are 3 minor problems with my bike.

  1. Gear shift problem - after i went to top gear, if i want to come down gear , my gear was stuck and it never come to the lower gears. To overcome this problem i need to close and open my clutch by opening a little throttle then only the gear shifting . This problem was corrected in 1st service.

  2. Headlight is very poor. We can have good lighting even in 100 cc bikes. Its too bad.

  3. Horn sound is very poor like luna. Its very disappointing. Even i cant hear the horn sound in the traffic.

Of-course we can change the horn if we can bear traffic police fines.

Everybody knows about the specifications and other readings , so i am not specifying them.

I highly recommend unicorn if anybody want to buy a 150 cc bike and my second choice is pulsar. I don’t like apache and other and its my personal opinion.

My question is how much recommended speed i should maintain with unicorn? My first service is completed. I think the best speed is 55-60 for getting good mileage of 55 around. I got 60+ easily with 40-55 speed. Will it be the same after the 1st service? Thanks for any advises..

Sorry for my poor English if its scares you.

Happy riding............

new update on my black handsome after 4 th service

i have completed 7000 km today on my unicorn and everything is amazing. Now i observed my latest mileage and i really surprised of it. Meter reading was 6697 on reservation and i filled 5.2 liter petrol. I clocked 332 and meter was showing 7029 and its now on reservation. That means i was getting above 60 mileage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I am very proud about my driving style.

Problems i have faced till now:i have observed chain sound when my rear tyre is running on stationary. I am obvserving this sound from 4000 km onwords. Afer the chain was cleaned with petrol, the sound was reduced. But again this sound is coming from 6500 km. Whenever the chain is tightened, the sound is increasing.

I complained this sound everytime i visited honda showroom, but they keep on saying it was common.

Honda service is pathetic and whenever i given for service, i saw many stitches on my bike.they never solved any of my problem, and they simply returing my vehicle with normal servicing..i will update you afer 8 th service again.
