Unicorn -Bike@Best, but service@blore pathetic !!!

Hi Everyboby,

Let me introduce myself w.r.t. this review...

I am proud owner of honda unicorn since 1 year ...

vital statistics :

daily use : around 40kms/day

long rides : 200-400kms/day

I choose this bike after lot of research on bikes in this segment.

The riding comfort is best in class ( as compared to bajaj pulsar ). You don`t have to really bend to hold the handle bar (unlike pulsar), which can very much pleasing for your back and shoulders when you are on long rides.

You can easily cover upto 200-350km/day effortlessly.

I have tested the maximum speed which is max. 100kms/hour ( with a pillion rider ) (checked on bangalore-mysore 3-lane high way ). This is less than Yamaha 135 cc which can reach upto 115km/hr easily in short duration.

But, pickup is good enough and safe for daily use (in cities).

The weight is more than pulsar. Also, I must mention that unicorn has got a amazing road grip.

It has got very soothing engine output.

Coming to Looks, .. not bad. Though not completely, but to mostly matches the style of hero honda CBZ.

Fuel Economy : Gives me just 40+km/ltr (42-26) ( instead of their claim of 60kms). This may be because my average riding speed is 60-80kms/hr and in city.

Biggest problem I face on night rides is head light is not bright/ not focussed properly.

I have to constantly switch between dim/dipper to understand the road/negotiate the curves.

At present I feel this the best option you have in 150cc segment. ( I don`t know about TVS apache ).

YOU ALWAYS FEEL LIKE COVERING COUPLE OF MORE MILES WITH THIS BIKE !!

Now coming to service.. it is the worst atleast in banglore...

So, go for it if you have the guts to manage well without giving for service at authorised service centers. I used to give my bike at Haiku honda, domlur. Following are the problems:

  1. service centre located around 1km inside from main road

  2. heavily crowded 24x6

  3. guys there does not listen to your problems properly (don`t have time)

  4. you have to give bike early morning 8:00am, otherwise you don`t get the bike on same day

  5. they charge you heavily.

  6. don`t do the service with care ( my engine is leaking after oil change !!!)

After a one year, in 1st paid service they charged me Rs.780 !!!!!!

Rs.300 for replacing front disk brake brushes ( 2 small pieces). So, honda accessories are no doubt costly !!!

Rest Rs.480 is the minimum cost of servicing involing oil change, servicing charge and wheel alignment. I was shocked at the bill.. and now I have think 10 times before giving it for service.

So, all I can suggest is check for good service before going for bike or else you have to repent later !! But, nodoubt honda unicorn is superb bike but service is pathetic !!!!
