Just completed 1 year on my Honda CB Unicorn. Overall feeling is quite good considering the bikes performance. The main reason I selected this bike was its refined engine and durability. I like to cruise along in the outskirts roads with minimal traffic at 40-50 kmph, but on the highways, I am a rough rider, I push the vehicle to outperform its previous best all the time.
Top speed: 122kmph @ over 9000rpm(REDLINE) though I strongly recommend against hitting the red line.
Acceleration: decent for its class though good acceleration is available at higher rpms only. lacks low end power. I have seen the look on few peoples faces as though they dint expect that kind of behavior from unicorn when I sped past them:)
Braking: adequate, though optional disc at rear end like trigger would have been good.
Mileage: I dont take the figures seriously, and I urge people to look at my style of riding before judging the actual efficiency of this machine. I have got a mileage around 44-46 in city(my riding style does that) and 50+ on the highway when cruising at 80kmph with occasional 100-110 bursts.
Please check the air pressure levels frequently, the MRF zapper tires tend to lose out pressure rather quickly.
Issues faced:
Headlight: Not focused in the right place, you may have to fix it(read owners manual) or tell the servicing guy.
Suspension: Mono suspension is great, but when you have a pillion rider, it gets too soft with the lowest setting. But hey, its one of the best for a single rider in any condition.
SERVICING: Very casual attitude towards the customer complaints. I had clearly mentioned all the issues, still I find few are not rectified. When I ask the guy he says, " I dint feel it was a problem". I think he forgot he was not the one driving the bike everyday.
I know this review is not helpful for someone looking for a commuter vehicle( I use it for commuting and weekend touring), but for moderate touring & commuting, this bike is a mix of power and performance. If your budget permits and you are looking for a commuter/tourer, look no further, Unicorn is here!
I do not wish to compare this bike to any other ones, please see this as a review of the bike alone.
Happy riding!
