I had gone to Kowloon, Hongkong for New Year for a week with my family.
It was a wonderful experience. The flight was comfortable thanks to Air India via Bangkok.
When you land at Hongkong this what you see.
On reaching Hongkong after descending from the clouds you suddenly see quite a few mystical islands in the China Sea. Then after a few minutes you see tall buildings all over the place sprung over many islands. Buildings, Buildings, and more buildings....
Then you land at the HKIA (Hongkong International Airport). The Airport is quite big and has Shuttles to move you from the respective Gates to the Central terminal.
Very Efficient and Impressive system I might say.
Then we were guided by the Holiday World Tours Guide towards our Hotel BPIH, Tsimshatsui, (Kowloon) by a Mini bus.
As you travel around the city you see New Tall skyscrapers constructed based on Feng Shui guidelines (we were told). The Local people are Chinese/Taiwanese in origin as China and Taiwan are immediate neighbours.
Hongkong has lot of shopping centers and Night clubs. The Metro System (MTR) is fantastic.
The best places to visit in Hongkong are:
Star Ferry (Bus: 1A), [Full view of the Victoria Harbour]
HongKong Space Museum
HongKong Disneyland
Ocean Park
Repulse Bay
Shenzhen, China [by 1hr Metro]
Victoria Peak
Shopping in Kowloon/Tsimshatsui Area for Electronics.
Aberdeen Fishing Village
At Night the view is fantastic especially on New Year where all the High-Rise buildings are glowing with Lighting. The most amazing sight is that of the Tallest IFC Building (International Financial Centre) and HSBC Building. On New Year 2005-2006 there was a spectacular laser show from the tops of all high-rise buildings in the Hongkong harbour along with fireworks and sound. Good Show. To go from Kowloon to Hongkong there are many
underwater tunnels connecting the two. You could go to Ocean Park and enjoy the amusement rides. Victoria Peak is a mountain where you will be taken to the top by cable car. You get a nice view of Hongkong. You could goto Repulse bay where there is a Beach and the rich stay (20, 000 HKD /sq feet).
For Food I would advise you to eat at McDonalds if you do not want to try out the Chinese seafood !!. As for people interested in eating noodles there are lot of restaurants that serve various types of delicious noodles with vegetables/asparagus. You could try prawns, salmon but mind you they will be served raw.
As for the Hotels they provide good service and site-seeing tours. You could also go to China for a day like Shenzhen.
Hongkong is a nice place to shop except that most of the items are quite over-priced. So it is worth buying some thing that is reasonably cheap. Overall a very enjoyable and memorable New-Years stay at HongKong.
And not to mention the HKIA Airport is pretty cool when it comes to departure. You have all the facility for Internet Surfing, Gaming, Shops, Electronics.
So if you want to visit a new fascinating city it could be Hongkong.
