Well, I guess my review differs a little because I was born and raised in Hong Kong. Its a great place for a number of reasons, but I didnt always feel that way. It definitely helps to speak good, unaccented English here or people will have a hard time understanding you...lol. I have a fair command of Cantonese and it really comes in useful, but you can definitely get by without it.
The best time of year to visit is definitely from Oct/Nov to Feb/March. Its much cooler and dryer than the summer. HK Chinese people are used to Indians, being that HK has always had a sizeable Indian population. Youll see ladies in saris and the like...even taking public transport, which is excellent in Hong Kong. Taxis are very cheap here compared to the US and a great way to get around. Occasionally a cab driver might not understand what youre saying if youre speaking English, but he can always radio a dispatcher to help you out.
The bus system is also pretty good, but perhaps a little more difficult to navigate if youve never been here. The MTR system is a lot easier and there are announcements in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Its much cleaner than underground rail systems in most other places (i.e., NYC :) )
