This is The Grill at Naupada in Thane. Overall, it has a good ambiance, polite waiters and good crowd. Food is alright. It is one of the best places to eat continental food in Thane. There is a branch at Nirmal Lifestyle at Mulund.
We are fond of continental food and have eaten at the Mulund branch once, and at the Thane one twice. The first time (in Thane) we ordered chicken straugonauff (forgive my spelling) which was excellent, a fish sizzler which was above average and Spaghetti Bolognese which was above average. Iced tea was fantastic. The second time round we ordered just pasta - Sicilian (average and there were hardly any olives), Basil & Tomato Sauce Pasta (average) and our daughter who is 19 ordered pasta Alfredo. This last was horrendous. It was very sweet, and tasted like thick kheer, more so because of the spaghetti, and when we mentioned this to the waiter, he tried to tell us that this was how this dish is supposed to taste. We are foodies and have tasted this dish in all kinds of places from five star to road side restaurents and we had tasted nothing that tasted like a sweet dish and we told the waiter so. He simply shrugged. He could have admitted that the cook poured in extra sugar by mistake but he didn’t. My daughter couldn’t eat it . She says she prefers sweets after a meal. Well, that was that.
We have had mocktails once in the Mulund Branch. They were good.
Ofcourse inspite of the Alfredo we will visit this restaurent again but we will be very careful not to order any pasta. Their pasta dishes are average. Might be spoilt too. Also, the way they layer the tomatoes all around the pasta dish is not at all aesthetic. Difficult to eat the cold lifeless tomatoes. The chicken strips are just thrown into the pasta dish at the end. At least that was what it seemed .
In case anyone knows an authentic continental cuisine restaurent in Thane please let me know! Because we do not have much choice out here. Not like you lucky Mumbaikars!
