For my trip to shimla 27Feb10-1Mar10. Two familes.
I did my booking online via their official website. Once I reached Shimla at night around 2PM to find no one present at reception. After some searching was able to locate on 1st floor restaurant watching some movie. Over all staff was polite and well dressed.
Hotel staff helped to park my car and carry my luggage to my room.
Rooms: I had booked (Deluxe 2200/-) and was given room on 4th floor(top floor) in main building. Room were clean and decent with double bed, TV, table and two chairs. Each room heater and water heater present. Room heaters were not much effective. From hotel windows has good view of shimla. Main Building has lift present so it was not problem for handicap or old age person. Do not forget for room rent (20% discount and Luxury taxes to be added). Luxury room were bit costly but were good with additional facilities such as small fridge, drinking water heater. bigger room heater, study table and ample for space.
Note # Luxury room/ Super Delux are not in main building and for Super Delux rooms will have to climb two stories(no lift). So avoid Super Delux.
Food : Liked the quality of food but bit costly. Example. Stuff paratha cost 70Rs + Service TAX + 15% Extra(Room Delivery).
Access to Mall Road : Option 1 : Around 10-15 climb(walk) and reach Mall road. Option 2 : walk downward toward lift and reach mall road. on return you can get some taxi to leave you at hotel at nominal costs(50 Rs). Car parking is available. but in peak season at night its get congested. Around 9 PM almost all shops start getting closed including lift.
Overall shimla has started becoming concrete jungle. If you want to enjoy some nature in same area then book hotel in fagu (22 km from Shimla). Kufri though good place but have to take horses to reach top. This is real painful with lot of dirty mud all over. Try to skip.
I also visited Narkhana(65 Km from shimla). which still has good amount of snow and skiing going on. you can rent skiing equipment, if not then just rent rubber shoes.
