We went to Ooty 28-29 may 2004. As usual it was much crowed and since we didnt book a place, had a tough time to get accommodation. Finally Hotel Lakeview was once place where we got place. They have around 115 cottages, so getting place wont be difficult there.
But the only problem is that the cottages are built next to each other, actually they have walls common with each other. So if you are looking for seclusion, this is not the place. The cottages are built in a line (around 15-20 in one row) and there are about 9-10 rows like this on a slope.
This is supposed to overlook the lake, but you can hardly see the lake from most of the cottages. Also the place is not well maintained and full of high rise grass and other creepers.
They have 3 kinds of cottages, normal, deluxe and suite. The rates are around 800, 900 and 1000 respectively. They are more or less same, except the furniture inside. The bathroom in the suite is bigger. And the suite has got a fire place, though I am not sure if they can be used or not. The cottages are not well maintained and you might find leaking roof or wall. We had issues with hot water also, after many phone calls to the service, they came repaired the geyser.
Service is general is poor, as we asked for hot drinking water several times, but nothing happened, then finally at 10pm night a guy came with a jug of cold water. They have a restaurant, but we didnt get a chance to check that out. The lawn in front of the reception is very well maintained.
The travel desk is always busy and they do mesh up sometimes. Like we had booked for a 9 seater Sumo for 10am morning, but at 10:30 a sumo came which could seat only 6 people (there was no seat at the back). Finally after much fighting they got us 2 Ambassadors at around 12. So we lost almost half day there itself.
Overall we had a bad time there.
