A mini Palace Indeed …

The atmosphere is grey , its sultry , vehicles moving in gay abandon … well are you thinking this is a setting on a nice grey evening under the London sky , no way lets get to reality folks .. welcome to Chakala - Andheri East in the suburb of Mumbai , vehichles moving around as it is the crowded junction and the greyness is because of the amount of ’’healthy’’ carbon monoxide around you !!! , as you wade towards the polluted air, next to Standard Chartered Bank is ’’Sai Palace’’ a neat looking restaurant tucked into the corner.

One is apprehensive as you enter the restaurant , it has a small sit out for patrons to wait when it gets too crowded and a couple of kiddy games around for your kids to while their time off . The beauty of this restaurant is its three main advantages

  • You can have their a la carte menu

  • You can have their buffet priced at Rs 150/- per head during working days.

  • A nice Choice of 3 Banquet halls for small get togethers.

The seating is quite ok and pretty comfortable , it’s a little clustered but then not cramped, as you sit down you are welcomed by wet perfumed towels , man this is their first plus point, after wading through the pollution , now here is something to freshen up !!!

Well the food is again … a mixture of Punjabi and Indo -Chinese , but they have managed to get a bit of their best into everything , food , service, ambience etc. They serve Alcohols and have a well stocked bar , you have everything from Hard Drinks to Beer and even a pitcher beer . Accompaniments are only peanuts … ( in the literal sense huh !!! )

Coming to the food , in no particular order, the masala papads, paneer tikka masala, Veg Tawa masala, Pahadi Chicken , their impeccable Roomali rotis, butter naans , rotis and the lot are real good. I also prefer our good old Jeera Rice and Dal Fry , its great at this place. I mean you order anything , they would do their best, you wont really get disappointed . The mirchi ka salan is also great . The soups are the same, nothing extraordinary.

Indo -Chinese, hmmm treading into familiar territory , its good folks, he makes then damn good , their Schezwan rice and especially the yummy spicy manchow noodles are a treat , they experiment and come out all trumps.

Filled your tummy , the desserts wait for you , the ice creams are good, milkshakes are fab , please don’t try the strawberries in cream its not worth eating.

All in all with the smiling faces of the staff around you , the great service makes it the best place for official gatherings and meetings. Voila !!! come evening and the crowd changes into the family type , so it’s a very adjusting restaurant . So in a nutshell Sai Palace gives you good value for money !!!
