I visited Kodaikkanal this month with my family and friends. We had booked a family room online through the bank site which costs around 2200 per day incl of all taxes. We booked for two days, so it was Rs 4400/- total. Note that this is only while its season, off season charges are very less compared to this.
The family room includes the below facilities:
Two bed rooms
One Toilet
One TV
Two wardrobes
One Sofa
And some other basic furniture.
Four people can stay (excluding kids). It is Rs. 200 for extra person.
I cant say I am too happy after staying at this hotel. Some of the cons I could list here are:
There is no hot water supply during evenings. Only morning they have hot water.
After check-in there was no towel or soap in the room. After calling room service 3 times and waiting for almost 2 hrs finally we got towels and soaps. I was not surprised because my friend who came with me had been there earlier and he said room service is too slow. So if you need anything call them before 1 hr atleast :-)
The restaurant is OK, but there is a big issue with flies while we had break fast and they do not have any counter measure to tackle this. If you have the food at room that is better. Food is not very costly when compared to some outside restaurants/hotels and tasted good I will say.
They do not accept debit/credit cards for payment. I was surprised to hear this since they had online booking facility in their website. We needed to go to the ATM and take money for final settlement.
The hot water provided for drinking in flasks was not hot enough to be hot for some time. They went cold within a hour.
For room service they have employed minors, Less than 15 yrs I guess. I felt uncomfortable with that. They might be school going children and may be working since its vacation and season time. But It was difficult communicating with them. They were helpful though.
The main attraction is the cost of the rooms. It is not very near to the lake. If you can shell out some extra bucks then there are a lot of other better options in Kodai. It will be better if we go after season time since rush will be less in hotels and charges will be low (sometimes 50% less) . Also for site seeing there wont be a huge crowd. If during season prefer going on week days if possible. Because weekends and other national/state holidays there is huge rush.
Thanks and Regards
