I just share my exp. here, which might be useful for fellow travellers.
We visisted Coorg(Madikeri) in August, 2005. We travelled via the Bangalore-Mysore-Coorg path.
The travel from Mysore to Coorg is a memorable journey with pleasant climate and beautiful Coffee/rubber estates and the green topography.
On the way we have seen the Tibetan Monastery and the famous picnic spot, called NISARGADHAMA. This place at the confluence of the 2 branches of the river Cauvery. This is full of bamboos.
We reached Coorg by afternoon, and stayed in Hotel Crystal Court ( a unit of Hilldale resorts). The overall rating of this hotel is good. But for the best of Kodagu food, you have to visit Hotel East End on the main road.
Coming to sight seeing, the must visit places are the Abbey Falls, a beautiful falls inside a private coffee estate. The way leading to the falls within the coffee estate is so beautful. You will really love this place particularly in monsoons, as mentioned in other reviews.
Rajas Seat is another famous spot from where you can enjoy the excellent views of the below plains. When we visited this place in the evening around 5PM, this park was covered with mist all over and we did not feel like coming back to the hotel.
Another important sight is the birth of place of river Cauvery, called the Talacauvery, which is at a height of 5000 feet above the sea level and is at a distance of 50KMs from Madikeri. The journey to this place is really beautfil via the forests where you might sight some wild animals.
We have not visited the Dubare elephant camp , due to lact of time.
Ofcourse, you can buy some fresh spices and Coffee packets. But dont buy Honey, which is not pure as they claim to be.
All in all, Coorg is the best place which can be at its best in monsoons, but not in summer.
Finally , a piece of advise. Stay in a hotel where you can enjoy the beauty of the nature and relax. You can try the Orange County or any other home stay.
I wish to go there again in the near future.
