Housefull returns with a greater impact

Housefull(2010) seemed like just another comedy churned out from the Nadiadwala production house. It did manage to capture the audiences but to a lesser extent as compare to this year’s released blockbuster Housefull 2 (which is not a sequel to its predecessor). But yes, Housefull 2 : The Dirty Dozen (2012)does manage to tickle your funny bone and coerces you to acknowledge the clever antics and tactics used in the film by the main characters to manipulate every situation and thus turn it into a laugh riot.

Plot :-

The scene opens with the camera rolling over London city while displaying the opening credits. The next scene or the official opening scene of the movie at a local London circus shows Henna Kapoor(Asin Thottumkal) threatening to sue the owners of the circus for violating Animal rights. However, her cousin and family rival Bobby Kapoor(Jacqueline Fernandes) threatens to sue her instead for the same reason, the real reason behind it being the long lasting family feud between their respective fathers, Chintu(Rishi Kapoor) and Dabboo(Randhir Kapoor), who are step brothers.Even their wives hate each other and often taunt or poke fun at each other’s misplays.

However, Chintu wants his daughter Henna to get married to London’s richest Billionaire, while Dabboo too has the same intentions for his daughter.Aakhri Pasta(Chunky Pandey)plays a funny marriage broker and brings Chintu a marriage offer from Jai’s(Shreyas Talpade) family.Jai is a photographer and has an affection for one of his crew, Parul(Shazahn Padamsee). However, due to a misunderstanding, Chintu fires them and throws them out of the house.Since Jai’s father is a heart patient, he got admitted in the hospital for which Jai seeks revenge against Chintu.

Jai asks his childhood friend Jolly(Ritesh Deshmukh), the son of London based Billionaire J.D(Mithun Chakraborthy) to seek Kapoor’s daughter’s hand and finally brake off the marriage at the last moment. However, Jolly is in love with his girlfriend JLO(Zarine Khan) but is too afraid to approach his father regarding this.

Jai and Jolly decide to handover this job to Max(John Abraham), their college friend and clever thief.Max agrees and he sets on the mission with Jai.But, unfortunately, things go topsy-turvy when they land in the wrong house i.e Dabboo’s house instead.Realising their mistake, Jai and Jolly decide to approach Sunny(Akshay Kumar), another of their college friend, but a sworn enemy of Max.The reason being that Max and Sunny had a bitter fight in their annual college day function due to a silly misunderstanding over a girl.Things get even worse when they face each other at Dabboo and Chintu’s house’, but luck strikes over a fight and two sworn enemies turn friends again.

Now, the next big problem arises when Chintu decides to surprise Sunny and Henna by taking them to JD’s house.Sunny initial turns the curve straight by managing to bring JD under control. But as expected, things would go haywire once again when JD’s loyal but cunning servant Patil(Johnny Lever) decides to secretly but sarcastically spy on all the new inmates.

To make things even worse, Dabboo falls into suspicion over Max when Chintu informs him that he has landed up with his family in billionaire JD’s house.Dabboo then decides to take Max and Bobby to JD’s mansion, but again to set things straight, Sunny steps in.

Later, Jolly then finally decides to break the truth about his father JD.JD or Jagga Daaku was a dacoit in India in a village several years ago who fought against the wealthy zamindars to hand over the land to the poor and needy. His close friend Batuk Patel(Boman Irani), a police commisioner decides to request the govt to reduce his prison sentence after his capture. They then decide to be there for each other in any adverse situation in life.

To make things even worse, Batuk Patel decides to come to London to get his daughter married to JD’s son.It turns out that his daughter is actually Parul, whom Jai is in love with. Now, the big question that arises is "Will JD and the Kapoor family realise the truth amidst all this mayhem and chaos"???

Direction/Performances :-

Sajid Khan has made a fabulous attempt in making this comedy of confusion or errors.Although this is not a unique concept, it does manage to pull you through from the first to the last scene.Having a brilliant comedy plot, with a dozen ace actors as well as foreign locales, provides the ideal recipe for a blockbuster comedy flick.

Firstly coming to the yesteryear actors, both Rishi and Randhir Kapoor gave in their best shots which was best portrayed in their on-screen rivalry.Their roles as fun loving but adamant hot shot fathers too added to the overall punch.

Mithun Chakraborthy best suited the role of Jagga Dakku or JD.His role as that of a strict and ever angry father strikes well with the audience.

Boman Irani plays more of a joker rather than what is expected from a police commissioner, but does suite with the overall genre of the movie.

Next, the heroines or the glamour edges of the movie too managed to pull off their characters quite well.Asin and Jacqueline both managed to suit the needs of their respective characters and so was Shazahn Padamsee, who had a simple girl type of role for her.Zarine Khan looked a bit weak in portraying an arrogant girlfriend.

Akshay Kumar, displayed his funny and mean side as in many other of his comedy flicks in the past several years. He best suited the role of Sunny, an energetic but mean and deceptive guy.John Abraham has tried his hand with comedies in the past such as Garam Masala, but this time managed to add more flavour to his role by portraying the witty thief Max. Ritesh Deshmukh does overact but manages to convince the audience regarding his character, as he has been famed for grabbing comedy flicks and has added one more title to his list.Shreyas Talpade, plays an all rounder and is too quite convincing.

Music :-

The film’s music was above average, although the song ’Papa toh Band Bajaaye’ was popular on Youtube a few months before the film’s release. Other popular ones include ’Anarkali Disco Chali’ featuring Malaika Arora Khan , ’Do you know’ and ’Do you want me’.

The lyrics were penned by Sameer and the music composed by Sajid-Wajid. Neeraj Shridhar, Suzzane, Mamta Sharma, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan and Sukhwinder Singh have lent their voices for the movie.

Overall :-

Housefull 2 had received both positive and negative reviews from its fans and critics alike but has managed to be a full-on entertainer. I had seen this movie in a multiplex and thoroughly enjoyed it from the beginning to end.Although the concept does have its parallels with other comedy flicks both in India and abroad, it surely keeps its viewers enthralled and anticipating the next moment, thanks to the mayhem and chaos created in the script. It is a sure recommendation from my side.
