Not Upto The Mark

Well I am a bookaholic and I happen to like any book I come across, be it a love-story or a thriller novel. When I came across this book, How I Braved Anu Aunty and Co-Founded A Million Dollar Company by Varun Agarwal, in the Amazon bestseller list, I seriously had a lot of expectations from the book. To be honest, I don’t think it did live upto the expectation, atleast not in my opinion.

So as the story goes, the book has been written by first time enterpreneur-turned-author Varun Agarwal and is a potrayal of his hard life and the struggles he had to go through to uncover his success.

Inspirational poiny of view, the story is good and can be taken as a boost for people trying to achieve their goals, but then again, I would rather prefer a few inspirational quotes than gulping down an entire book. Well talking about inspiration, this book has seldom anything to deal with it. The story is of a boy named Varun whose one and only nightmare in life is the ever-taunting-haunting neighbour Anu Aunty whose sole purpose is to criticize Varun and compare him to her son and others. The book also potrays typical Indian parents mentality towards their children where only going abroad or getting into an engineering college is a merit and nothing else. So far so good, but that’s it.

When I went through the book, I didn’t find Anu Aunty that scandalous as she had been potrayed by the author. I mean who doesn’t have to deal with a few neighbourhood tantrums, everybody right? Shutting them out isn’t some Herculean task. In my opinion, the inspirational quotient could have been a little more intense rather than a simple neighbourhood problem.

The book does deliver its happy moments and few of the parts are comical enough to manage a slight laughter from the readers which is a plus point. But such parts are restricted to a few places only. The novel also seems a little bit too draggy and sometimes even boring. Throughout the novel the author is intent on setting up his company and there is no catchy instance to keep you hooked to the novel. Often at times, it feels like a forcefull read for the bucks spent.

As a first time author, Varun Agarwal doesn’t offer much delight to what was considered  great novel. However, literature point of view, Vkarun does know its skills efficiently and the book has some good english but stirywise, it lacks the masala we Indians expect.

Even though I won’t completely isolate this book as a bad one, but if you are looking for something catchy and interesting, then definitely this book is not for you. However, inspirational point of view, I suggest to opt for Charles Dickens novels rather than this. They provide a better adrenaline rush undoubtedly. Not recommended.
