I’m a complete fan of chick flicks. While I live on a healthy diet of good movies, every now and then I need the mindless pleasure a movie like ‘How to lose a guy in 10 days” offers.
There’s the sexy, sassy Kate Hudson a writer for a cosmopolitan magazine who finds herself landed with an unusual assignment. And there’s the drop dead gorgeous Matthew McConnaughy, a slick advertising type who practically bets his career on his prowess with the female species. Fate puts these two on a collision course and then sits back to watch the fun unfold.
Kate Hudson is stunning. Makes you want to rip out her hair for looking so good. She’s perfectly cast as a writer, determined to grow above and beyond her current job. She’s focused and even the possibility of a serious romance doesn’t get in the way of her work. Or does it?
Matthew McConnaughy is also perfect for his role as a talented adman hot on the chase of a prestigious client. He’s witty and charming. A heartbreaker.
With each deceiving the other for different reasons, the two are driven together and drive each other around the bend. But neither accounts for the fact that their clever plans may backfire, and you spend the rest of the film just waiting for a disaster to happen.
A lighthearted dig at men, women and relationships, this film is funny, fresh and relatable. It’s an hour and a half of simple pleasure. “How to lose a guy in 10 days” is a sweet comedy. Great performances by the two leads amply supported by friends, colleagues and family, make this movie worth watching. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
