The Good News is You can Quit Smoking !

Being a smoker, you have thought’How to Quit Smoking’ Congrats! You are already 50% successful in quitting it.


I do not know about any non-profit organizations in India that help you quit smoking, but I can give handy tips on how to quit the habit. It is not the usual join the gym, go swimming, develop a hobby etc. You see, it is all in the mind.


1.Remember every cigarette you smoke takes away 5 minutes of your lifetime. Hey, there are other things in life worth dying for!


2.Remember to set a timetable for quitting the habit. Tell yourself you will not smoke in the afternoons and stick to that. Quitting phase by phase is much simpler than trying to quit forever.


3.Remember not to fool yourself by saying that you are smoking because of pressures. If you are smoking, this itself is a great pressure. And when you quit you no longer have the pressure of being a smoker.


4.Remember not to look at quitting to smoke as if you are giving up something. You are just throwing away the garbage from your life.


5.Remember if you experience HALT – Hunger, Anger, Loneliness, Tiredness, pick up the phone and talk to a friend. Do not reach for the cigarette.


6.Remember to drink lots of fluids to flush out the poison from your body. Drinking lots of Orange juice helps as vitamin C is depleted because of smoking. Munch on a fruit when you crave for a cigarette.


7.Remember, when you are trying to quit, it is the first cigarette that gets you started. It takes only one. Put off lighting that first one for a little while.


8.Remember to avoid the Self-Pity trap. If you begin to feel sorry for yourselves, you mind will tell you need a cigarette to make you feel better.


9.Remember to stay away from negative people and worrisome situations. Always keep a positive attitude.


When you are trying to light a cigarette, read these tips again! You can quit the habit.
