I have been a smoker for many years. I have tried many different things to try to quit. I was able to quit once for quite a long period of time, but a bad day came along, and I thought I could have just one cigarette. Well, one turned into two and so the story goes.
First things first, you have to be ready to quit. The first thing that helps you get geared up for it is to constantly think about what smoking does to you, and what it could do to you in the long run. And think about what it makes you and your home smell like. And about the people who care about you, etc. It really does help to think about all the downfalls to smoking. And lets not forget the money it costs you! What an expense! Then, pick a day and mark it on your calendar. It helps to get you ready for the big day. Plan it for at least two weeks ahead of time. And the very best help aid I have found, the only aid that helped me to quit, was Zyban.
A prescription to help you quit. I also used Nicitrol gum, which really came in handy for keeping the mouth busy. If youre worried about gaining weight-dont. As long as you eat the right things-vegetables, fat free or close to fat free foods, etc. you will be fine. A daily walk doesnt hurt, either. Something all of us benefit from anyway. Also, something very important-Stay away from caffeine and sugar if at all possible. They will make you want to smoke. The information you get with the Zyban medication will tell you all about it. Most importantly-keep busy! Find things to do that keep your hands busy.
I did a lot of puzzle books to help with that part. Ive got my day planned-again. This time, I realize that I cant allow myself to have just that one. It doesnt work. Good luck and get healthy!
