I have been very fond of reading books since I was in 10th grade I have first read sci-fi, fiction, thriller but never looked our to the self help genre of the books. In my first year of college, I started reading self help and my first read was "who will cry when you die" by Robin Sharma. This encouraged me read more self help and in recent years. I have read many of these and many became my favorites. How To Win Friends And Influence People has certainly became one of my favorites books after a read. This is mainly because this book is easy to read and topics are soo on point.
The is divided in 4 Part and 30 chapters each part have chapters in it with some lessons. The way book has been written, feels soo genuine. In many chapters, the authors tell stories about himself which helps us justify the reason for the teachings he is trying to give. At some places, he has attached the copies of the letter which are in italics and double quotes, which signifies that the author has researched a lot about the book.
The lessons given in the book are soo genuine and realistic to follow and there are reasons given inside the chapters that why you should follow and apply such small things while interacting with someone. Dale Carnegie has met and been to many differ places around the world to research for this book.
When I started reading the book I didnt just start to read the book like I used to read any other fiction or non fiction books. I used to read one or two chapters at a time and then tried to apply those and then move up to next chapter.
They may feel like a long read but these kinds of books are not made to read in a go. We must read such books in such a way that we have time to digest, if not every but some lessons from the book. Also the book is an easy read so you wont have any problem in completing a couple of chapters at a time.
Dale Carnegie has talked about very simple yet beautiful and effective actions that we often forget to follow in our day to day life while having an interaction with a stranger or a know person. Like how often we should throw a smile and how we should really remember someones name when we first meet them and how we should talk in terms of other persons interest because that is what everyone is interested in and how everyone wants to tell their story.
These are some lessons which are in the book and there are many more like these. These are some simple facts about self-development that we already know but then Carnegie gives us so powerful stories and evidences that we automatically try to implement them in our day to day life.
The book has lead a very powerful impact in my personal development and I have gained a lot from this and at times I still go back to this book read a few chapters,
I had this habit of not remembering the names of the persons that we are meeting and in this book I have learned some of the tricks to how we can remember the name of other persons.
Like so you will also get to learn so much about life tips and general habits that are now faded away in the sands of time.
One thing that I kind of disliked about the book is that sometimes, in some lessons there are soo many extra examples that are, for me, unnecessary to be there which eventually makes the book thicker and heavier which makes it hard to carry.
If you are thinking to start and explore the genre of Self-Help the author Dale Carnegie is a go for you. And specially the book How To Win Friends And Influence People is a must read. This book will be light to read and easy to understand.
The only bad thing is that it is a long book but then each chapter are separate from each other so it is not like that you have to finish the book in order to understand the whole concept.
