The 640C.....a complete no no

I must have cursed the person who gifted me this piece of crap a few hundred times.

I thought I must have got lucky when I first got this printer (the 640C).

The printer comes with an installation/setup disc packed inside a box double the size. The printer uses 24 volt o/p adapter and a parallel port cable. It can print paper with sizes B5, A5, A4. It can also print envelopes of all sizes. It prints in colour as well as in greyscale(black n white).

There is nothing that I actually liked about the 640C, apart from the compact size.(well, you do get even sleezier ones)

Although the printer is quiet user friendly it can be a big pain after only a few months of use.

The ink needs to be re-filled almost every 3-4 months after only some moderate usage and neither are the cartridges any cheaper.

After only a few months use, it started giving all soughts of trouble.

It began by making some strange noises. Sometimes it would suddenly halt in the middle of the session and one would have to re-do the assignment all over again.

A few weeks later it started taking two or more sheets of paper at a time, wasting paper at an alarming rate.

The ’paper out’ button also seems to not work, which incidently keeps blinking all the time even when the paper is being printed.

A few visits by the technician didnt serve much purpose.

Lately, the 640C has started printing half the data outside the paper. Well, only god knows what’s it going to do next.

Anybody who, after reading this review, still wants to by the 640C series should opt for a black coloured one and if they dont have it in stock just buy the default one and paint it black !!!
