Unfortunately, I cant figure out how to rate this laptop- zero or aminus.
This special edition laptop is just special trash. Why? Here goes-
a. Design- Ventilation for a laptop is as essential as having windows in your home. This laptops vents are just about there for namesake and the laptop touches anywhere between 77deg-87deg very quickly. I have kept the vents clean and unclogged. Still this happens. As a result, some months back, on the 13th month of my purchase, just immediately after the warranty expired, my hard disk fried. The timing was so amazing that it felt like some evil HP service agent remotely made the laptop go kaput.
- Software support- I believed that the harddisk might also have failed due to some software error. I called HP. HP told me it was my responsibility to make a restore disk for vista and it will not give me any restore disk since my laptop was out of warranty. I realized it went out of warranty only when they told me that. Honestly, how many of us can remember the twelfth month of the purchase?
So even if the laptop was not in warranty, should they not provide me with a restore disk on chargeable basis? What, is HP punishing me for not extending the warranty? Mind you, anyone can see from the Microsoft website that any computer manufacturer has to provide media copies of OEM software or OS.
That is no way to treat any customer and HP will know it when they fall away from their sales position very soon( Dell and Acer are on their way- beware HP).
Unlike dell, HP laptops(and I don’t know if desktops as well) will have to be taken to a service agent. I did and they figured the laptop harddisk fried because of heat. So I buy a faulty design, and was refused to be provided with Windows CD, and on the month I ran out of the warranty, the system crashes. Looks like an elaborate con plot and the con artist is HP.
I didn’t want to not use this laptop more because I figure one year is not time enough to retire a laptop. So I got my harddisk replaced by a HP recommended dealer.
3 months later. the Nvidia graphic card fries. Guess why? Bingo- heat. So now, the laptop boots, logs in, and all, but I can’t see a thing on the screen. The screen has the ambient light glow but nothing otherwise. I found out there is a way by which I can remove the graphic card and use the Intel on-board graphic. So I am going to try that. I am not willing to spend anything on this machine which fries things up.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION, I ALMOST ALWAYS USED THE LAPTOP ON A HARD SURFACE. So it is not like I blocked the vents when using it. For the love of god, isnt this supposed to be alaptop?
- For now, I have ordered a Dell machine; an m6500 precision workstation and HP will never get any purchases from me, my business or my associates. I will not even buy a HP printer. I will buy Epson. Nobody will be happier than me when HP vanishes from the face of this earth.
Disgusting company, disgusting product, disgusting service, disgusting support, and a wiser customer. Hope this helps people not choose HP.
All the best, if you are not buying HP and my condolences otherwise.
