I bought the dv6000 in 2008, believe me there were very few laptops at that time, that can be compared to the dv6000s sleek, stylish, premium configurations and creative gadgets. HP renowned to provide the best value to customer, even though their products are pretty costly. I even forgave their offer on OS (Vista-Ultimate), for one year no problem, but I still was pretty curious with the enormous amount of heat generated by the laptop, and the roaring of the coolant fans every now and then.
The 2nd year the warranty was off and then problems starts to appear, forget the battery life this laptop battery cannot last for more than 1 yr it is inevitable. But then one day the display simply goes off, it was the graphix card, HP service people said it was due to high heating (cost Rs 8000). One important thing unlike other laptops is the Ball Grid Array (BGA) by which the Nvidia Grapix chip is mounted to the motherboard this means with overheating and eventual cooling the ball solders weaken resulting in loss of contact with the motherboard. With such a delicate design I dont know how HP came up with a stupid & pathetic cooling and venting system as u see in the dv6000.
In a year again the same problem this time I am in Netherlands (cost 150 euros). 6 months after this repair one day again the laptop display doesnt work, this time it is the motherboard lining (estimated cost >250 euros). And dont for a moment think HP service is good, when I asked whether I can extend the warranty, they simply said that HP has stopped customer service for this laptop. With so many dv6000 laptop owners I dont know what made HP to give up on this laptop. This laptop had a design fault in the first place (the incompetent cooling system and the pathetic Ball Grid Array), this laptop was bought by so many people, and HP gave up on this laptop, this is how I sum up HP - "A laptop that should have never been made by HP in the first place."
