This is probably one of the more affordable scanners around. It has good features and very good build quality. It supports a max resolution of 1200x600 dpi. It also features the no hassles USB interface.
The scanned images are good and I have no grudges in this regard. It also features an optical character recognition software (a basic one). But this provides below par results. I would not recommend it for this use.
Coming to the drawbacks, well, firstly the scanner uses a 15Amp plug! As to why I dont understand. This is a problem as most outlets are usually 5Amps.
The bundled HPScanjet LTX Scanning software crashes the first time it is initialized under win2000. You have to ’’end task’’ and restart it to make it work. C’mon HP, we expect more form you! I have to check the HP site for an update/patch.
All in all, a very good buy for the home user! Wish they could improve the software though!
