Free HSBC credit card: Run away as u seen ghost

Regret the day I trusted one of the credit card agents who showed that I’m eligible for a free credit card for life being a doctor. So I felt no harm and applied for one and got promptly gold credit card . I have another card which I was using so I didn’t use this card frequntly.

Thanks to your amazing services, I got the annual dues and since I didnt know it kept on recurring to about 3000 Rs eventually and a kind man from your side informed me about the dues to which I said I was told it was free card. Alas nothing comes for free from HSBC. Anyway, he said he would agree to 1965 Rs as a favour to me which I agreed. It was obviously not clear to me that this means my credit worthiness is gone.

So I made the payment, with the letter clearly saying that this is the end of ’relationship’ dt 25.8.2008 Now I am called by a customer care executive telling me that this card is still active on 2.9.2009 and so whether I want more limit???? I’m at loss to understand what HSBC wants?

They want to arrest me or what for foolishly applying for your card. I caught hold of that agent later on , when he said me this is what HSBC asks us to tell everyone that the card is free for life and if I feel so angry I can beat him up...... I’m a doctor so left him...........Do I have a choice, thanks to great training by HSBC to their agents. So, I’d be grateful for your response regarding further dues of mine if any as now I’m cautious and would be forced to approach banking ombudsman if I’m still charged for a cancelled credit card. Thanking you for eternity Dr Milind Kumar

Thankfully I got email today.......5.9.9 to which my reply is included

Dear Susmita,

I’m relieved to hear that my card is cancelled and it has no further dues as it was last year when I was tricked into believing its a free card and my dues recurred to around 3000 due to ’unpaid’ annual dues.

Your apology is not going to repair the damage to my reputation as ’ the matter has been informed to all reference credit agencies’ by your efficient staff’ even after paying 1950 Rs as it was communicated to me that if I pay this amount the card would be cancelled.

I’ll never ever do mistake of dealing with HSBC in my life again,

Dr Milind Kumar
