A great value for money android cel

I bought this phone almost couple of months back (not from Flipkart though).  After doing a thorough research and market survey I shortlisted HTC Explorer, Samsung Galaxy Y & Samsung Galaxy Ace.

Galaxy Ace had a slight bigger screen with 200Mhz additional processor and memory, the only added advantage was a 5MP camera.  The price tag was also almost 2.5k more than HTC Explorer.

Galaxy Y had a smaller screen size with 2MP camera and price approx 1K less than Explorer.

HTC Explorer beats both these models in terms of the look and feel of the phone exteriors, resolution and the touch sensitive controls - thanks to HTC SenseUI 3.5.  Some of the pros and cons of HTC according to me are:

Pros:

  1. Resolution is much better than all Samsung phones.

  2. Excellent UI and graphical interface (HTC is known for its trademark HTC Sense UI).

  3. Powerful graphic processor with adreno 200 GPU which is far better than Samsung processors

  4. Though camera is 3.2 MP, the clarity of images are quite impressive.  Snaps taken in daylight are very good - comes out crisp and clear

  5. Battery life is better than expected

  6. GPS/WiFi Hotspot features - A very useful feature.  I can easily connect my Blackberry or laptop through Wi-fi hotspot and surf the net at 3G speed.

Cons:

  1. Internal memory is too low (110MB).You need to be too cautious to install only selective apps. It needs atleast 18-20 MB free space for auto sync of mails and Facebook contacts.

  2. Camera does not have autofocus.

  3. No LED Flash

  4. Some of the preloaded apps are crap . Unfortunately we cant remove them without rooting the phone :-(

Would suggest to install some of these apps as they are very useful and will make your HTC experience better.

  • Adobe reader

  • 3G Watchdog (for monitoring your 3G/wi-fi data usage)

  • Astro filemanager

  • Dropbox (online file storage)

  • Avast! antivirus

  • Evernote

  • Go Task Manager

  • Camera 360 Ultimate

  • Dolphin HD browser

In a nutshell, I think at this price range, HTC Explorer is a good value for money phone.  Just go for it unless you are looking for a phone with high memory and camera resolution.
