Movie: Hulchul
Director: Priyadarshan
Leading Cast: Akshaye Khanna, Amrish Puri, Arbaz Khan, Arshad
Warsi, Farha, Jackie Shroff, Kareena Kapoor, Paresh
Rawal and Shakti Kapoor.
The plot:
The story is abut two estranged families. One family consists of
Angaarchand(Amrish Puri) and his four sons
(Jackie, Arbaaz, Paresh, Akshaye). The other family is headed by some
Laxmidevi and consists of her three sons(Suniel Shetty is one, no
idea who are other two), her son-in-law(Shakti Kapoor) and Shakti
Kapoors daughter Anjali(Kareena Kapoor). The Angaarchand family
is a family of misogynists. They hate women to such an extent that
no one in the family is allowed to marry. It so happens that
Jackie Shroff is to be married to the eldest daughter of Laxmidevi
family. But Laxmidevi does not let this happen & gets her daughter
married to Shakti Kapoor instead. Due to this there is lot of
bloodshed & many members of both family get killed developing a
bitter enemity between the two families. The AngaarChands due to
this become misogynists and never let a woman enter their house.
Anjalis(Kareena) marriage is fixed with some collector, but
Amrish Puri enters as a villain & does not let this marriage
happen. Anjali & Jay(Akshaye Khanna) study in same law college.
After her marriage gets broken Anjali returns to college where she
is humilated by Jay. She laeves her studies & again returns home.
She & Laxmidevi then set up a plan to woo Jay in Anjalis love.
But Jay refuses to fall in that trap. But Jays friend
Lucky(Arshad Warsi) persuades him to get into love act with Anjali
just to humilate her again. Both hate each other but act as if
they love each other. Finally Anjalis uncle Suniel Shetty breaks
the ice & both have to depart. But they soon realize that they
actually love each other & cannot leave without each other. Jay
tries several futile attempts to meet Anjali. He & lucky are
thinking of a plot to get Anjali, when they get to know that one
of Jays brother(Paresh Rawal) is actually married. He has kept
his wife(Farha) in some other village from the fear of his father.
So Jay decides to get this brother of his in his act to get back
Anjali. When AngaarChand learns about this he throws both his sons
Jay & Kishan(Paresh Rawal) out of his house. But Sunil Shetty
comes as a saviour to help Jay. He develops a plan to get Jay
married to Anjali on the day Anjalis marriage is fixed with some
other guy. But do they succeed in their plan. Does Jay get his
Anjali? Does Angaarchand accept them? Well I wont spoil your fun.
You better watch the movie for anwsers. Well there certainly is a
lot of Hulchul on the marriage day. The climax is really
hilarious.
Performances:
Arabaaz Khan & Jackie Shroff are limited in their role of elder
brothers. They dont have much role accept fighting whenever
required. Amrish Puri too has delivered an okay performance as
father of 4 children. Shakti Kapoor too is seen less often in his
role as Kareenas father. Laxmidevi is too vociferous and could
have done better without her overacting. Suniel Shetty though
limited delivers well. Farha too has has left her mark in her
comeback movie.
But the movie Hulchul certainly belongs to 4 people- Akshaye
Khanna, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal & Kareena Kapoor. Arshad Warsi
& Paresh Rawal are the lifelines of this movie. The movie would
have been a sure crap without them. Arshad Warsi back in his
circuit avataar generates oodles of laughter. The best part is
when he goes with Jay to Anjalis house. He is really hilarious in
that scene. However post interval his role is limited, but still
makes us laugh in certain scenes with his zing. Paresh Rawal
though limited pre-interval gives a remarkable performance post
interval. Here is a actor who has an ability to deliver in both
comic and emotional scenes. His scenes are highlights of the
movie. Kareena as usual looks gorgeous in the movie. She too has
given a good performance. But her comic timing isnt upto the
mark. Full credit to Akshaye Khanna for yet another remarkable
performance. He has been delivering really better performances one
after another(Humraaz, Dewangee, Hungama).
Overall the movie is worth a watch if you want some doses of good
humour. Post Interval the movie drags a bit & could have really
done better without the unwanted song sequences. The only
remarkable score is Rafta Rafta. The ending is really hilarious & wont leave you disappointed. A copy of Hungama where all characters of movie get together at one place & a lot of Hulchul follows. Watch out Akshayes long jump in the end. After a tired days work the movie
is certainly the best place to get refreshed. Watch it for Arshad
Warsi, Paresh Rawal & their really hilarious comic timing.
Certainly not another Hera Pheri. But if you liked Hungama you wouldnt want to miss this.
